[Bug 600477] New: CPU-Freq governor "ondemand" doesn't work
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=600477 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=600477#c0 Summary: CPU-Freq governor "ondemand" doesn't work Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Factory Platform: i586 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: ulrich.vogl@infreising.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; de; rv:1.9.2.3) Gecko/20100401 SUSE/3.6.3-1.5 Firefox/3.6.3 Since kernel 2.6.31 you obviously removed support for cpu-freq-governor "ondemand" from kernel, which has been a very helpfull tool to save energy and to reduce noise on a older notebooks, like my "Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pro V2030" with a Pentium-M 1,5GHz Processor. This Processor supports throttling over p4_clockmod, but in the current kernel version only in two (extreme) running-modes are supported: "performance": always on 1,5 GHz "powersave": always on poor 188 MHz. I'm aware some kernel developers have meant, that p4_clockmod-ondemand-switching isn't really a good idea cause of high performance loss while ondemand-switching-operation. But the result now is much more worse! Please come back and re-open support for ondemand-switching with p4_clockmod. I'm convinced, a lot of notebook-owners with older board (2007 and bevore) would appreciate it! By the way: I't would also be a good idea, to re-integrate the automatic load of "p4_clockmod.ko" into the /etc/init.d/haldaemon script. Thanks Uli Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install OS on a Notebook with Pentium-M 1,5GhZ (2006) 2. 3. Actual Results: see above Expected Results: High energy consumption, hot cpu an a noisy fan which is always "on" -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
