[Bug 342473] New: OpenOffice status bar fonts not resizing
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=342473 Summary: OpenOffice status bar fonts not resizing Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Keywords: accessibility, Usability Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: OpenOffice.org AssignedTo: eward@novell.com ReportedBy: bryeny@mi-tech.com QAContact: qa@suse.de CC: hpj@novell.com Found By: Customer Created an attachment (id=183761) --> (https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=183761) See differences in font size I'm using 10.3 with OpenOffice Build 2.3.0.5, although others have found the same problem in the standard release on 10.3. Using 1024X768 resolution. See attachment. While changing application fonts in GNOME changed the size of fonts in the menu bar, other areas of the OpenOffice application were not resized, and thus become unreadable. Note the status bar at the bottom. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

@Bryen dimensions: 1280x800 pixels (286x179 millimeters) resolution: 114x114 dots per inch
And if you switched to 1024X768, what happens then? I don't have capabilities for higher than 1024x768 on my machine, but my understanding is that when someone is at a higher resolution and then switches to 1024x768, the problem I've mentioned becomes obvious. FWIW, I'm also seeing the problem elsewhere in OO. For example: File > Properites Table > Insert > Table and so on... seems to be anything with a popup dialogue. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It seems that the status bar can't be much resized. It might be a task for Jan Nieuwenhuizen.
If the problem depends on resolution, it might be related to the bug #265736.
It somewhat works for me. The status bar is slightly resized. The popup menus are resized normaly, ...
On the first screenshot, I see that the font used in combo boxes is small (the strings: Default, Thorndale AMT). They should have the same size like the menu. I seems that you use a non-default font and non-default theme.
Brien, could you please provide the following information?
+ What is your GNOME font setting? + What is your GNOME theme? + Does is has any effect if you increase the font inside OOo by Tools/Options.../OpenOffice.org/View/User Interface/Scaling
Petr, Currently: My GNOME font setting is: - Application Font = Andale Sans 16 - Document Font = Sans 16 - Desktop Font = Sans Bold 14 - Window Title Font = Sans Bold 16 - Fixed Width Font = Monospace 10 (I've never paid attention to this one.) My GNOME theme is Glider , however, I have tried with different themes in the past with the same effect. The Scaling setting you pointed me to was set at 100%. I increased it to 130% which apparently is the maximum allowable. It improved the view (and I appreciate being pointed in that direction.) But it still does not match the font size that I have chosen as my default elsewhere on my desktop. Checking the dialog boxes, font size also increased there as well to the same size as the status bar font. So I guess the problem here is in the area of scaling setting. Limited ability to increase size in a more readable fashion for users with enough visual impairment to require larger font sizes. For visually-impaired users who rely on very large print fonts, this could pose a problem. By the way, I just checked now on a clean user login, and the effect is the same with default Gnome theme/font size. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
