[Bug 674341] New: vnc connection crashes when moving fvwm window by title bar
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=674341 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=674341#c0 Summary: vnc connection crashes when moving fvwm window by title bar Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: bnc-team-xorg-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: phdm@macqel.be QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1.2) Gecko/20090730 SUSE/3.5.2-2.1 Firefox/3.5.2 I have configured remote suse 11.2 machines to use fvwm as default wm. I connect to those machines using vnc. Everytime I try to move a window by clicking on the title bar, the connection crashes. This does not happen in the fvwm on the graphic console, so I surmise it must be a vnc problem. This happens with different vnc clients (different ms-windows versions and different linux versions). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.set fvwm as the default window manager 2.connect to this computer using vnc 3.hold the title bar of a window and try to move it -> connection broken :( -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Could you send us a backtrace from the Xvnc crash? Install xorg-x11-Xvnc-debuginfo and xorg-x11-Xvnc-debugsource packages,
I did not find a xorg-x11-Xvnc-debugsource package :( -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

You're right. The package is called libpixman-1-0. The official libpixman update I could find for openSUSE 11.2-i586 is
libpixman-1-0-0.16.0-1.3.1.i586.rpm libpixman-1-0-0.16.0-2.2_1.3.1.i586.delta.rpm
Hello Stefan, I have manually erased the installed libpixman-1-0 package with rpm -e --nodeps libpixman-1-0 and then, also manually, installed the one found in update with rpm -i libpixman-1-0-0.16.0-1.3.1.i586.rpm and now my vnc servers do not crash anymore Thanks for the quick, detailed and useful answer Philippe -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

For some reason the release number of the updated package is smaller than the one of the installed package. This explains why it hasn't been updated. :-(
No, installed version (comment 7) is 0.16.0-2.2:
libpixman-1-0-0.16.0-2.2.i586
Available version (comment 8) is 0.16.0-2.2:
libpixman-1-0-0.16.0-1.3.1.i586.rpm libpixman-1-0-0.16.0-2.2_1.3.1.i586.delta.rpm
So they are the same... I do not say that I understand... -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Philippe, have you installed some libpixman package manually before? That would explain this behavior.
No. I checked again against http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/11.2/repo/oss/suse/i586/ and what you find there is libpixman-1-0-0.16.0-2.2.i586.rpm
Otherwise we would have to dig why you had a "newer" libpixman installed... Also, doing an 'rpm -V <packagename>' typically helps validating that it was installed correctly before.

No, the fixed version is 0.16.0-1.3.1 :) the broken (and original) version is 0.16.0-2.2, so the fixed version has a lower release number (1.3.1) than the original one (2.2) Philippe -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
