Trial patch
This patch reverts part of mainline commit 1277fa2ab2f9a62. This patch was
added to overcome pauses of many seconds when downloading. The patch causes no
problems for the Realtek test machines or my computer. There is, however, one
instance where bisection points to this patch as the cause of problems.
