As might be expected, this is kernel-specific(4.x) and not distro-specific. Is possibly missing feature of the VMware hgfs-fuse implementation, or might simply be incomplete help documentation. There doesn't seem to be a way to manually unmount the mounted share. There is a mount option to auto-unmount "on process termination" whatever that is supposed to mean (explanation needed? maybe when mount is embedded within a long running script?)
