We know that grub didn't recommend partition but MBR for a long time. The problem that we didn't switch default to MBR is because we think MBR is a shared location for distributions and we don't want to default to monopoly it, so that leaving it an option to user to decide. Probably it's time to change, I do really like default to MBR also because it's less trouble.
