ok, back to networkmanager, enabled systemd-networkd and timesyncd. Still hang. 

nsswitch.conf contains:

passwd: compat sss
group:  compat sss

hosts:  files mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns wins
networks:       files dns

services:       files
protocols:      files
rpc:    files
ethers: files
netmasks:       files
netgroup:       files
publickey:      files

bootparams:     files
automount:      files nis
aliases:        files

I tend to give up on this issue. If no one else can reproduce it, it's probably
something wrong on my system only and I don't want to waste your time debugging
my system.
