Ok. Then I no longer think this is a regression in the driver itself. Looks more like a packaging issue to me. Indeed x11-video-nvidiaG04 runs mkinitrd, but I don't think this is the culprit. More likely this is a duplicate of bnc#983934, comment #10 (complicated stuff; X wrapper script is involved here, which removes the old nvidia kernel modules, so you can run an nvidia driver update on top of X; so after Xserver restart the new driver comes active) I suggest to try again within a clean environment, i.e. zypper rm \ nvidia-gfxG04-kmp-default nvidia-computeG04 nvidia-glG04 x11-video-nvidiaG04 reboot zypper inr (in order to install the nvidia packages again) reboot -> results? zypper in --force \ nvidia-gfxG04-kmp-default nvidia-computeG04 nvidia-glG04 x11-video-nvidiaG04 restart X/desktop -> results? reboot --> results?
