I'm seeing this on Leap 42.1 too: I have accumulated 2450 /var/tmp/zypp*
directories since installation in early January, 9 months ago. That's roughly
2450/(30.5*9*5/7) = 12.5 directories per working day (I'm using this computer
Monday-Friday).

I'm mainly updating through the KDE updater thing that automatically checks for
updates and asks if I want to update. It typically fails to resolve
dependencies when there are updates in the VLC repository, at which point I do
a `sudo zypper dup` in the terminal, and that has always fixed it.
