Comment # 10 on bug 811801 from
All, I can confirm similar behavior when attempting to use gphoto2 on 13.1.
Marcus suggested I follow up with this bug. The connection failure is between
my laptop (13.1) and my kids iPhone 4/4s (now with IOS 7.1.1). It worked fine
with 11.4/IOS 5.X. If this is a separate bug, let me know and I'll open an
additional bug. Here is the relevant description from my earlier discussion
with MM:

  Marcus, I set the permission on gvfs-gphoto2-volume-monitor:

$ ls -al /usr/lib/gvfs/gvfs-gphoto2-volume-monitor
---------- 1 root root 94296 Aug 26 05:25
/usr/lib/gvfs/gvfs-gphoto2-volume-monitor

  Then killed gvfs-gphoto2-volume-monitor and confirmed:

$ ps axf | grep gphoto
28544 pts/12   S+     0:00  |       \_ grep gphoto

  gphoto2 showed the exact same problem. On the iPhone I immediately got the
message 'Trust This Computer?' (Trust/Don't Trust). I hit trust, and 6-7
seconds later, the same message pops up again. This shows the connection was
never established/allowed. The gphoto error was the same (new log attached
bzipped - in case anything changed):

env LANG=C gphoto2 --debug --debug-logfile=my-logfile_no_gvfs.txt --port=usb:
--list-folders

*** Error ***
PTP I/O Error

*** Error ***
An error occurred in the io-library ('I/O problem'): Could not release
interface 0 (No such device or address).
*** Error (-7: 'I/O problem') ***

  Also on 13.1, I never get any mount. On 11.4, the mount was automatic, and
you could browse the camera in konqueror, etc... Now, while there are a huge
pile of mounts in 13.1, there is nothing for the camera:

$ mount
devtmpfs on /dev type devtmpfs
(rw,relatime,size=1914192k,nr_inodes=478548,mode=755)
tmpfs on /dev/shm type tmpfs (rw,relatime)
<snip>

  On openSuSE 13.1 I have the following installed:

bexif-gtk5
cdk-4.9.13-168.5.x86_64
gphoto-2.5.5-44.1.x86_64
gphotofs-0.5-4.1.2.x86_64
gtkam-0.2.0-32.1.x86_64
gtkam-doc-0.2.0-32.1.x86_64
gtkam-lang-0.2.0-32.1.noarch
libexif-gtk-0.4.0-2.1.3.x86_64
libexif-gtk5-0.4.0-2.1.3.x86_64

  Those were the same packages installed on 11.4 (earlier versions) and the
connection worked fine. I have an old konsole log of an earlier connection from
11.4:

00:38 alchemy:~> gphoto2 --port=usb: --summary
Camera summary:
Manufacturer: Apple Inc.
Model: Apple iPhone
  Version: 5.1.1
  Serial Number: 86146MZWEDG
Vendor Extension ID: 0x6 (1.0)
Vendor Extension Description: Device has no vendor extensions
PTP Standard Version: 1.10

Capture Formats: Association/Directory JPEG PNG TIFF
<snip>

  No matter what I try, when I plug the USB connected iPhone into the 13.1
laptop, I immediately get the message on the iPhone "Trust This Computer?
(Trust/Don't Trust)", I hit "Trust", then 6-7 seconds later it repeats. There
is never any mount attempt on 13.1. I'll attach the gphoto2 connection log in
case it offers clues. Let me know if you need more information or if this
should be a separate bug. The failure to connect issue is definitely common.
