You're right. With CDE the "double text" appears too for the split of a second,
and then corrects itself.

So probably the problem is this:
Apper seems to display the text, and puts a progressbar widget with the same
text on top of it. If the progressbar widget is transparent, the below text
shows through causing that visual glitch as it is not at exactly the same
position.

(that's just guessing though, I haven't looked at the code yet)
