I'm using these kernel paramters: ... console=tty0 console=ttyS0,115200 ... and get kernel messages and login prompt on both consoles. But the status messages ([OK] started bla ...) appear only on the first specified console. On openSUSE 11.4 (sysvinit) and openSUSE 13.1 (systemd) it worked as expected.
