This is also happening to me, also when I plug in an external monitor via
display port the laptop display freezes, but I can still see the mouse cursor.
This also happened with the 4.6 kernel upgrade in tumbleweed.

If I boot with the mini display port inserted then all is well and the
flickering does not happen
if I unplug or plugin in the display port while booted the the screen starts to
flicker and continues flickering even when the display port is re inserted.

I have attached my hwinfo and will work on verifying fixes proposed in this
issue
