Hey I'm pretty sure I'm getting a replica of this bug on an alienware 13r2 with
linuxmint 18 cinnamon, kernel version 4.4.0-21. Haven't tried with kernel
version 4.5 because I don't have time to reinstall if the upstream kernel
messes up my system at the moment.

the second part only appeared after computer was restarted with the phone
plugged in. I suspect this is a duplicate of this bug:

When I unplugged the phone after restarting with it plugged in, from tail -f
/var/log/kern.log I got
