I can rule out that this is a virtualization problem:

Originally I experienced this on my Lenovo X200s using a i915 (Intel
Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07)) on
a bare-metal install.

I only used virtualization to conveniently get screenshots ;)
