The bug remains opened for years. Over the time, the permission system completely changed and migrated to udev. Also nut should now detect HID devices correctly. If you still have a problem with your UPS, please create an entry for your device to udev tables. USB HID devices should be listed in: /usr/lib/udev/rules.d/95-upower-hid.rules Additions should be reported to the upower upstream. Non-HID USB devices should be listed in: etc/udev/rules.d/52-nut-ipmipsu.rules or /etc/udev/rules.d/52-nut-usbups.rules Additions should be reported to the nut upstream. Serial devices still need manual configuration, as they don't allow Plug And Play detection.
