I install shutter in a Live gnome usb 13.1,
and can't reproduce this error.
take screenshot OK, close tab OK.
Can you describe how you install shutter,
maybe you were missing some dependencies.
in oopenSUSE 13.1, you can just type (with root)
zypper in shutter
nothing wrong here
