Looking at the code, not much code specific to generations Kepler/Maxwell/Pascal seems to be present - they seem to build on top of the Fermi code, where applicable. So I suspect that either the GPU architecture changes, and less of this code will actually be used - or the hardware stays similar, and the continue continues to work.
