Hi, the board elections will start in january 2011, and we are in the process of phasing out users.opensuse.org in favour for connect.opensuse.org. So we need to make sure that we can run the election there. There is a poll plugin available, that we plan to use for this. I created a test poll for the board elections here: http://connect.opensuse.org/pg/polls/read/digitaltomm/10593/board-election-t... (opensuse login not yet working, please ask prusnak if you don't have a test account) The issues I currently see are: - Start- End-date: Users.o.o had this configureable. In case of need we can click at the right time, but I don't see how to end a vote. - The results shouldn't be visible until the vote is done. Maybe it's also ok if only users that already voted can see the intermediate results? - It would be nice if we could add some introductory text above the poll options. - Users.o.o had much nicer graphs on participation, results. We may create those manually with an external tool. See for example: https://users.opensuse.org/elections/2/result - We need to announce the election to all members. Users.o.o had a function for this. To do this manually we need at least a list of all members emails. - Is it ok that one can see which user already voted, and when he voted? By constantly monitoring you could create a list which member voted for wich candidate. - The vote is now restricted to the group 'members'. Does this mean it is only visible for them, or can everyone see it? - The site needs more design love. - created ticket in retro - there is a space for discussion - do we want to show results after the one has voted or only at the end of voting round?

I cannot reach users.o.o atm. :-/

Elgg has messaging plugin but we don't use it, so people will use mailinglists instead. We will create an API call that will return all email addresses of members.
- Is it ok that one can see which user already voted, and when he voted? By constantly monitoring you could create a list which member voted for wich candidate.
I guess this is OK. If one can see in his/her activity stream that other people vote, it might create awareness about election and result in higher participation. Thoughts? Do we agree on this one?
- The vote is now restricted to the group 'members'. Does this mean it is only visible for them, or can everyone see it?
Yes, only the members of the group see the vote and entries in activity river wrt the vote.

Subject: [election-officials] Connect poll test
From: Thomas Schmidt
Hi, the board elections will start in january 2011, and we are in the process of phasing out users.opensuse.org in favour for connect.opensuse.org. So we need to make sure that we can run the election there. There is a poll plugin available, that we plan to use for this. I created a test poll for the board elections here:
http://connect.opensuse.org/pg/polls/read/digitaltomm/10593/board-election-t...
(opensuse login not yet working, please ask prusnak if you don't have a test account)
Hmm, I logged in to connect.o.o with account:geeko / password:opensuse, but ATM, I can't see any poll on that page but just "Sorry: we could not find the specified poll." Do I have to log in with another test account?
The issues I currently see are:
- Start- End-date: Users.o.o had this configureable. In case of need we can click at the right time, but I don't see how to end a vote. - The results shouldn't be visible until the vote is done. Maybe it's also ok if only users that already voted can see the intermediate results?
I don't think so. If users that already have voted can see the intermediate results, they can tell them to users that have not yet voted, by blogs or tweets.
One of the important role of election officials is, IMHO, to guarantee that there's no corruption for the election. For this purpose, we need some ways to confirm that the results are not improper manipulated. So I think this function should be very effective.
- The vote is now restricted to the group 'members'. Does this mean it is only visible for them, or can everyone see it?
What do you mean by 'it'? If you mean 'the page where members (= people that have right to poll) can poll' itself, I don't think it should be everyone-visible. But the result page should be everyone-visible.
- The site needs more design love.

Change the access level to the board group.

Why? whats the problems with this? Its like the 15:00 Hochrechnung :)
- It would be nice if we could add some introductory text above the poll options.
True.

Yeah, we just do a nice news.o.o posting

Can you elaborate what announce means? Individual emails?

Only the group members can see it. Try it yourself with the geeko:opensuse demo account.

For the last elections we sent out individual mails to the members. If that's sufficient we can also do announe it on the lists only.

Where?
Lots of small things, just what I noticed: - The textfield at the top right does not say anything - The 'Tools' Link needs an arrow down icon - The 'Dashboard' is empty by default, can we add some default content? - The frontpage has no introduction text what this app is about - Images in the activity stream are not correctly alligned - Polls on the frontpage need a description not just a name - The Help link at the bottom of the page only links to a technical description of the elgg framework - Latest members with 25 times the same grey image does not look good, also we should not use the term 'members' here maybe Greetings -- Thomas Schmidt (tom [at] opensuse.org) openSUSE Boosters Team "Don't Panic", Douglas Adams (1952 - 11.05.2001) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-boosters+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-boosters+help@opensuse.org

The results shouldn't be visible until the vote has ended. People could poll regularly and reconstruct who voted what etc. That's not neccessary.
- Users.o.o had much nicer graphs on participation, results. We may create those manually with an external tool. I would be fine to show how many people already voted.
- We need to announce the election to all members. Users.o.o had a function for this. To do this manually we need at least a list of all members emails.
Can you elaborate what announce means? Individual emails? Sure, you need a way to approach every member individually by mail to send instructions, notifications etc.
- Is it ok that one can see which user already voted, and when he voted?
Not ok to see who already voted and who not. Ok to see how many voted or not.
- The vote is now restricted to the group 'members'. Does this mean it is only visible for them, or can everyone see it?
Only the group members can see it. Try it yourself with the geeko:opensuse demo account.
