Hey, Vincent and I just took over the action item of trying to organize, until this Sunday (23.), a hack week-end at FrosCON. The idea is that we take a milestone that is fairly self-contained and finish (or at least prototype) it together with interested people at this weekend. What we need until Sunday is a abstract describing what we want to do. I have looked over our backlog page http://en.opensuse.org/Boosters_Team/Projects and so far the only milestone i could imagine is openTasks which was some kind of application right? Any other ideas what we could do? Oh and please let us know if you would NOT be available at the weekend of August 21st and 22nd because you have planed vacation or something like that. Lets roll! I don't see a need for OpenTasks, now that Boosters (and Marketing Team and Board and Membership Team) are using Retrospectiva. How about investing some time into Connect (missing) features? -- Best Regards / S pozdravom, Pavol RUSNAK SUSE LINUX, s.r.o openSUSE Boosters Team Lihovarska 1060/12 PGP 0xA6917144 19000 Praha 9, CR prusnak[at]suse.cz http://www.suse.cz -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-boosters+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-boosters+help@opensuse.org

Is connect and especially the missing feature set self-contained enough? For instance can we run an instance on a server we bring (without the stupid internets) and can we condense the list on the Connect page[1] to a workable set that needs no interaction with 3rd parties? If yes this sounds like a condidate. Its hip too :) Henne [1] http://en.opensuse.org/Connect -- Henne Vogelsang, openSUSE. Okay lets go then. What can we finish on a weekend? Henne -- Henne Vogelsang, openSUSE. Everybody has a plan, until they get hit. - Mike Tyson -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-boosters+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-boosters+help@opensuse.org

Maybe enable it to use the opensuse account by authenticating against auth.opensuse.org (https://features.opensuse.org/309070), add an api to query user details and group memberships to be used from other applications. I told Henne I'd send that last night, but my internet connection went down, so I went to bed instead ;-) Here's a first draft of an abstract for the hack week-end: ===== The openSUSE project is organizing a hack week-end in its development room. Our explicit aim is to show to the attendees how we work, but also to help new contributors participate in the project by targetting a specific objective. Our hack week-end will be open to all, and we invite everybody to step in and to help improve openSUSE. The technical objective of this hack week-end is to enhance the remplacement for our obsolete system for managing users and group memberships. Since we wanted to introduce some social aspects to the application, we decided to build this replacement on top of Elgg platform (elgg.org). Most of the features we want in this system are already available as Elgg plugins (or mods), that we will evaluate in order to check they match our expectations. However, some additional features will require the creation of new plugins. The features that will be worked on during this hack week-end include: event calendar, caldav, oauth, openid, geotagging, user awards, support for business cards. Participants will also have the opportunity to influence where this project is going, since the overall design is still open to changes! We will also help people work on other topics they are interested in. With this hack week-end, we want people to discover the inner workings of openSUSE by themselves! ===== (Thanks to Pavol who actually wrote draft 0 ;-)) Vincent -- Les gens heureux ne sont pas pressés. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-boosters+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-boosters+help@opensuse.org
Hey, my revision ===== Join the HackMeck! HackMeck is the weekend hack retreat of the openSUSE Boosters team in the openSUSE development room @ FrosCON. The aim of HackMeck is to advance Connect, the social networking framework the project is using to connect its users with each other. This is a great opportunity for new contributors to participate together with experienced members on some specific objective. Connect is built on top of the Elgg plattform and most of the features we want are already available as Elgg plugins. We will evaluate and enhance those in order to match our expectations. However, some additional features will also require the creation of new plugins. Connect runs on a combination of the Apache web server and the MySQL database and is written in the PHP scripting language. If you already posses knowledge about this very popular web server environment we encourage you to join HackMeck! But even if you don't there are plenty of cool things to do and this weekend will give you the opportunity to learn and further yourself. The features that will be worked on during HackMeck include: * oauth and openid support for the login procedure * An Event Calendaring System with caldav support * Support for location based services like geotagging of people/events * Enhance the ''play factor'' by engaging the users with badges and awards * Support for generation of business cards and other representative supplies If you are interested in social networking, hacking and shaping the future of this project and want to discover the inner workings of openSUSE make sure to come to HackMeck @ FrosCON 2010, August 21st and 22nd at the University of Applied Sciences Bonn-Rhein-Sieg. Cool, just a few coments: * add Elgg URL somewhere (elgg.org) * spell OAuth, OpenID, CalDAV correctly * wiki link at the end does not work (probably known issue) Otherwise it looks more than great and I think it's ready!

Funny you mention it, I was about to ask the next days for vacation for the week following that (with being away already on the weekend).
