Owncloud Integration Owncloud [1] is a free and open server for file storage and syncing "in the cloud". It is based on the WebDAV protocol but comes with a nice web interface, plugin based extensions such as media player, very very little system requirements and a quite active and enthusiastic upstream community. It should be well integrated into the openSUSE distribution as it helps our users to stay in control of their data completely as it is based on real free software and the users control the installation and pick the level of publicity they want. That is a differentiator to other "cloud"-offerings we can see even in the linux market. To provide an easy start for the user in the owncloud, there should be a YaST module to enable it. It should basically have this UI: [ ] enable my Owncloud ( ) on this computer ( ) on my webspace ( ) in a hosted environment Little explanation of the options: ( ) on this computer -> local installation, owncloud is accessible from the local network ( ) install on a webspace the user owns, he has to provide (at least) credentials for that and an url, installations happens through FTP on the users webspace and is password protected. ( ) in a hosted environment: There are hoster offering owncloud commercially. We could work on a special offer with them. Once the owncloud is enabled, there should be a new icon on the desk and the user should be able to use it right away. Since owncloud comes with a "first run wizard" as well as a user management not much more is needed from the YaST side. A more experienced option would be to move the owncloud from one installation to another with all the data etc.
