Hi, after I fixed that problem in my profile with the prep partition, Installation of SLES10 ppc on an IBM pSeries ran through, but setting up lilo fails. AY runs through, no error message, but the system didn't boot (different error messages on boot: prompt). I set up a chroot postscript with a sleep command so that I could login into the installing system with ssh, and found the following /mnt/etc/lilo.conf: # Modified by YaST2. Last modification on Mo Okt 16 10:37:54 UTC 2006 menu-scheme = Wb:kw:Wb:Wb timeout = 80 lba32 change-rules reset read-only prompt default = SLES_10 boot = /dev/sda image = /boot/vmlinux initrd = /boot/initrd ###Don't change this comment - YaST2 identifier: Original name: linux### label = SLES_10 root = /dev/sda3 image = /boot/vmlinux ###Don't change this comment - YaST2 identifier: Original name: failsafe### label = Failsafe append = " 3" initrd = /boot/initrd root = /dev/sda3 This can't work because there are many parameters that are not known on ppc. Indeed calling lilo in a chroot env returns: 141:/ # lilo ERROR: !!!!!!!!!! unkown option menu-scheme !!!!!!!!!!!!! and so on. After I removed all unknown options, it warned me that the "activate" entry was missing: 141:/ # lilo running on chrp guessing the chrp boot device Boot target is /dev/sda1 Warning: Extend PReP boot partition /dev/sda1 to hold yaboot 1+0 records in 1+0 records out 4096 bytes (4.1 kB) copied, 0.012297 seconds, 333 kB/s Installing /lib/lilo/chrp/yaboot.chrp onto /dev/sda1 Converted /etc/lilo.conf to /etc/yaboot.conf Warning: boot path not set to boot linux as requested Warning: please add '/pci@3fffdf0a000/pci@2/pci1069,b166@1/scsi@0/sd@8,0' somewhere to your boot path manually It looks like AY sets up a lilo.conf for an x86 system and not for PPC, but since no error message is returned in AY (it should if calling lilo fails, shouldn't it?), the system reboots into an unbootable state. Is this known and is there a fix for it already? You can find the log here: http://www.bio.ifi.lmu.de/~steiner/y2log.ppc2.gz cu, Frank -- Dipl.-Inform. No, I don't think this is a known issue. Can you file a bugreport please? Attach the y2log to it too. -- ciao, Uwe Gansert Uwe Gansert, Server Technologies Team SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, Maxfeldstrasse 5, D-90409 Nuernberg, Germany Business: http://www.suse.de/~ug

Ok. But we will need a fix for the current SLES, not for a SP1 in a few months or so. Do you think this will be possible? cu, Frank -- Dipl.-Inform. I don't know. The bootloader code is not maintained by me. -- ciao, Uwe Gansert Uwe Gansert, Server Technologies Team SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, Maxfeldstrasse 5, D-90409 Nuernberg, Germany Business: http://www.suse.de/~ug now playing Faderhead - Vansih

Ok, my fault! Another changer from SLES9 to SLES10 which I didn't
realize. Using "

I guess for SLES11 I will first read through all the docu before reusing the SLES10 profiles ;-)
might speed up the configuration a little but where is the fun in that? ;) -- ciao, Uwe Gansert Uwe Gansert, Server Technologies Team SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, Maxfeldstrasse 5, D-90409 Nuernberg, Germany Business: http://www.suse.de/~ug now playing Diary Of Dreams - Giftraum
