SLES 8 network install

Dependency issues I have four CDs for SLES8, 3 of them are United Linux 1.0 and 1 is SLES8. On the United Linux CDs the program packages are located at "/media/cdrom/UnitedLinux", on the SLES8 CD packages are located at "/media/cdrom/suse". To set up a network install I've combined the "UnitedLinux" and "suse" package directories into one "suse" directory on my nfs server. In the "suse" directory on my SLES8 nfs server I've run /usr/lib/YaST2/bin/create_package_descr, this seems to work and processes 1047 packages. But, when I go to install there are a number of package dependency issues. Most of them deal with the "heartbeat" packages, and the errors are: "/usr/bin/ssh not available" "/bin/ping not available" "libpils.so.0 not available" When comparing /media/cdrom/UnitedLinux/setup/descr/packages to nfsserver:/SLES8/suse/setup/descr/packages I notice that "/bin/ping" has been left out of the description of what "iputils" provides (+Prv:) so, is there something I'm missing or is create_package_descr forgetting some things ? YaST Backup System

I don't know if this is the right place... ..but anyway it's about YaST(2) I have a backup on 2 CDs and now I want to restore some files... (whit YaST/SuSE8.1, I made the backup whit YaST/SuSE8.1 -I copy the backups to my hard driver, backup1 backup2 -I select Restore System -I select Backup1 and after I select Backup2 (multi volume) -YaST asks me if I want to install packages(?) (programs) that were installed when I made the backup, I select no. -YaST asks me which archive I want to restore, I select the archive NOPACKAGES -I select which files I want to restore (I don't want to restore the whole archive) -I select the files: x /home x /home/user1 x /home/user1/Documents x /home/user1/Documents/text1.txt x /home/user1/Documents/text2.txt x /home/user1/Documents/text3.txt -Restoring files that doesn't belongs to any packages ...10% ...33% ...78% ...99% ...100% -Summary: (BLANK) -Then I click on the last button. And YaST exist. -BUT when I browse to /home the file(s) isn't there! I didn't got any errors... Q: How can I restore my Documents? /tmp/YaST-0815/iso/boot/loader is empty!!

hi there, what has to be in this directories? because in the mkisofs command is a link that belongs to this path but it is empty. hi rohit, first of all thank you for your help!!! Ok...you are right both directories are there 1. /tmp/YaST2-0815/iso and 2. /tmp/YaST2-0815/iso_skeleton/skeleton but in /tmp/YaST2-0815/iso are clean directories ./boot/loader. The same directories are also in /tmp/YaST2-0815/iso_skeleton/skeleton and there you can find isolinux.cfg, isolinux.bin and so on. I noticed that and changed the upper path but with no result when i try to do it manually. There is always an segmentation fault. What has to be in /tmp/YaST2-0815/iso/boot/loader ? Is it the same like in /tmp/YaST2-0815/iso_skeleton/skeleton/boot loader ? Or are there special boot options generated when creating the iso? Greetings Marc So notice that the CD to be created - takes the following pathspec. 1. /tmp/Yast2-01251/two_directories on last two lines. iso and iso_skeleton 2. Other files for stats to be put on CD about publisher etc. Now you come to this... what is contained in those directories? mkisofs shall take all that is there. Is something there? Hi again, Now i found out when the pakages have been copied to creat a custom iso-cd the mkiso command has a link to the boot/boot.catalog, but there is no boot.catalog in the directory boot (/tmp/YaST2-0815/iso_skeleton/skeleton/boot/...) ...or am i complete wrong?? Greetings marc

Install on defined partitions?

Hi all! How can i install Linux on a defined partition? Partitiontable: hda1 - Windows 2GB hda2 - Windows 2GB hda3 - Linux 6GB hda4 - EXT 10GB hda5 -Linux Swap 256MB When i try to install to Partition 3 / 5 i have allways a big problem: Autoyast2 do not find the hda3 partition. Autoyast only find and formats hda5 to swap. What to do? When i try to install without Autoyast2, yast is able to find both partition and want to install to hda3. Any ideas? bye Alexander

SuSE 8.0 Custom CD doesn't install packages

Hi all, After a fight lasts with a script to make a du.dir file compatible with my custom installation, I'm having another problem: the installation starts normally, also with my custom package selection. But when it goes to initiate the packages copy, I receive the following message: "Could not mount the source medium. mount: /dev/hdb already mounted or /var/adm/mount busy mount: according to mtab, /dev/hdb is already mounted on /var/adm/mount". Comparing the original du.dir file and my generate file, apparently it's equal (structurally). Someone have some idea ??? Regards, Fabiano

Hey, have a look at the Posting from Sept 2002 (I think)--> http://lists.suse.com/archive/suse-autoinstall/2002-Sep/ . There should be a thread called 'applying patches'. Just have a look at it. Item disappeared from Yast2

I uninstalled an application from Suse 8.1 using Yast2, and later wanted to re-install it. I found that the application was no longer listed in Yast2: why is that, and what can I do?
