[opensuse-artwork] Status Artwork for 13.1?
Hi, 13.1 is approaching fast. Could someone please summarize what are the current plans and status for artwork? cu Ludwig -- (o_ Ludwig Nussel //\ V_/_ http://www.suse.de/ SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Jeff Hawn, Jennifer Guild, Felix Imendörffer, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+owner@opensuse.org
Hi Ludwig,
The Plan is best summed up with the following 6 objectives
- 1 Keeping the same core design for 13.1 as we used for 12.3
- 2 Reducing file size of the design without any major visual change
- 3 GNOME - Fix & Use Time Sensitive Wallpaper
- 4 E17 - Package as part of branding-openSUSE
- 5 Add Community Wallpapers
- 6 Polish and tweak
Status
1 No action needed
2 Some improvements already made and committed to factory, others on the way
3 I finally have some ideas which I'm hoping to have packaged up in
the next week
4 Was discussed at oSC, Tomas Cech can probably give a better status
update on this one
5 Andy was taking the lead in collating the wallpapers so I can
package then, Andy, how's that coming along?
6. I've seen some general polishing and tweaking pass through the
branding-package in the last few weeks.
If you dont mind me asking, what's your interest? are you offering to
help out? :)

Great, no new design also means less work for automated QA :-)

Not exactly :-) Just checking that we are on track with things we need to take care for the release. Thanks for the update Richard! cu Ludwig -- (o_ Ludwig Nussel //\ V_/_ http://www.suse.de/ SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Jeff Hawn, Jennifer Guild, Felix Imendörffer, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+owner@opensuse.org

GNOME has a featured called 'dynamic wallpapers', which let us change the wallpaper throughout the day We normally have it transition, with a dark wallpaper at night, a bright one during the day, and something in between at dawn/dusk Since at least 11.4 we've had that wallpaper as the default in GNOME For 12.3 I failed to come up with any ideas that 'worked' well with this vine design - the brightness transition just didn't 'work' right in my opinion. However, we couldn't easily drop the package or the feature without risking breaking lots of GNOME users upgrades, as the dynamic wallpaper is now set as the default in the profile So I did a dirty little hack and in 12.3 the wallpaper is transitioning from itself to itself in the background.. which is a bit of a waste But after talking about it at oSC I've got a few ideas for nice subtle changes that make use of the feature I'm not planning any major differences in shade/hue, so its impact on openQA's testing of GNOME should be minimal :)
Thanks for the update Richard!
My pleasure :) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+owner@opensuse.org

So far I believe we have a very complete set of images that I placed in flickr for everyone's pleasure :D I took the images that had the most potential to be a wallpaper and worked a little extra on colors and simple effects. We also chatted for a little bit about finalizing a script to resize them all to the different resolutions that openSUSE carries. However, we may need this manually in the interest of time. Now, what you could do is to go to the flickr page, check the images and choose the ones that have the "punch" for a wallpaper. Once that is finished, I can start resizing and cropping.
