[opensuse-artwork] a KDM theme proof
Hello, if you will choose to continue to use KDM, I did a theme proof that should support various elements and use cases. Tested a bit with Xephyr (not completely reliable) and on a real screen at 1920x1080. What do you think? Caig
Hello, in the branding presentation video at oSC13 I saw the KDM issue was highlighted so I would retry to propose this theme proof adding a bit of explanations and screenshots too. It's written from scratch trying to put in almost* all the elements (* I notice now I missed the timer - used for...?). It adapts the elements position to avoid empty spaces or similar issues when the user chooses to hide a component (for example the userlist). The userlist can show up to 4 users without (ugly) scrollbar. I don't know really what some components are for (plugin-specific-winbind + domain-entry), so I just activated them via sysconfig to show them. Currently it uses FontAwesome icons http://fortawesome.github.io/Font-Awesome/ I put the 16:9 background just to show the result, so obviously on different screen ratios it currently looks ugly. More testing to do and fixing too. Screenshots (via Xephyr, not completely reliable): * plain, userlist and password field https://raw.github.com/Caig/openSUSE-graphics/master/KDM/openSUSE131-screens... https://raw.github.com/Caig/openSUSE-graphics/master/KDM/openSUSE131-screens... https://raw.github.com/Caig/openSUSE-graphics/master/KDM/openSUSE131-screens... * no userlist (and caps lock + pam-error messages) https://raw.github.com/Caig/openSUSE-graphics/master/KDM/openSUSE131-screens... https://raw.github.com/Caig/openSUSE-graphics/master/KDM/openSUSE131-screens... * with userlist and the obscure plugin-specific-winbind + domain-entry (and caps lock + pam-error messages) https://raw.github.com/Caig/openSUSE-graphics/master/KDM/openSUSE131-screens... https://raw.github.com/Caig/openSUSE-graphics/master/KDM/openSUSE131-screens... Thanks, I hope it will look decent on various machines, with KDM nothing is sure :) Caig -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+owner@opensuse.org

Very very cool idea for the disposal, I will not have time to test it deeply before at least August 15th.( Under Full work pressure) If you can't test it ( did you try several video mode on boot line ) with a virtual machine ? I would propose to ask for a merge (take care of CopyRight & Left :-) And then if you know any default, open a bug so we can track it down. -- Bruno Friedmann Ioda-Net Sàrl www.ioda-net.ch openSUSE Member GPG KEY : D5C9B751C4653227 irc: tigerfoot -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+owner@opensuse.org

oh, right, i'll try with a VM (and search how to change video mode in grub2) thanks Caig

On recent openSUSE 12.3 and + it should work with video=1280x1024 If you're using KVM vga or qxl drivers have best results -- Bruno Friedmann Ioda-Net Sàrl www.ioda-net.ch openSUSE Member GPG KEY : D5C9B751C4653227 irc: tigerfoot -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+owner@opensuse.org

Any news or progress ? As we certainly kept kdm this time for 13.1 it would a nice refresh to get this theme working -- Bruno Friedmann Ioda-Net Sàrl www.ioda-net.ch openSUSE Member GPG KEY : D5C9B751C4653227 irc: tigerfoot -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+owner@opensuse.org
Oh, yes, sorry for delay. Since last time I made 2 minor changes and I did some more testing on - 12.3 KDE 4.10 1920x1080 - 12.2 KDE 4.10 1280x800 - 13.1 M3 (VM) [1] (plus Xephyr). I wasn't able to do tests changing the resolution via grub2. On 13.1 (default configuration), KDM doesn't show the user image or the default one[1]. Trying various configurations I found an issue[2] if the user choose to * disable the userlist (default on) * and enable the autocompletion option (default off) KDM shows just the password field, no user field. I tried to understand a bit the KDM greeter code and I don't think it's a KDM issue :/ Caig [1] layout with just one user (most common case I believe): http://paste.opensuse.org/59207907 [2] http://paste.opensuse.org/70f98477 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-artwork+owner@opensuse.org

I would admit this one is a real special corner case, and could be documented like that if you a+b, we added extra security by hiding your login name :-)

Now I've seen last week, but didn't find the time yet to examine deeply if it could help us to have a test package just for kdm, so we can ask several kde tester to give feedback on it.

imo with user images is better, KDM reserves a space for them even if not showed. Sure, a detail, and kdm configuration related, not theme related :)

hoping the user isn't so customisation prone to disable the previous user pre-selection, even more corner case :)

I think it just misses the timed login label, but I'm not able to activate it for example in the 12.3 theme to understand how it works and add it to the proposal. If it's important I can add it anyway hoping it will work and someone will be able to test it.
