Hi there, We want to get news.opensuse.org more going and therefore would need some "dummy" graphics for recurring types of articles. Would someone with graphics skills be willing to do that? You won't need to do all of them even though that'd be awesome. ;-) Some of them are: - Leap releases - Tumbleweed reviews - Summits and conferences - Board elections More details and stuff to get inspired by if necessary is on Github. [opensuse-artwork] Reviving the marketing team

Hi all! (sharing this here as well, as arts people might be interested.) Watching openSUSE from being not involved in development I get the impression that it keeps acting like a poker player: Having a full deck of cards at hand including four aces but not showing to anyone just because the position of his sun glasses could… possibly… eventually… under circumstances… be optimized. That's something I want to change and want to revive the marketing team and get arts people involved. So I started to take notes: 1) Create content - present tools - continuous reports about developments going on - do interviews with different people/teams about their work in oS - ask people running booths to report - show how cool oS features are - draw pictures, memes and such - create video demos of various oS features 2) Create buzz - push stuff from 1) to any platform online - push shop-o-o with monthly product - make raffles of stickers etc. - invite to chats, forums etc. to discuss things 3) Keep following up - run regular onboarding events for new people interested to help - tailor events for special interests ("how to work with oS as a web dev") I am willing to step up and coordinate the whole thing a bit. But this all needs a few more people. Anyone wanting to help with this is welcome. Also please keep in mind that the things I mentioned are just ideas and discussion is very much welcome. What are your thoughts? Who's in? Regards, vinz.

[opensuse-artwork] Bringing back old theme

Hi, As you may or may not know, few months back I went on mostly solo adventure to create new theme for openSUSE with aim to have it released alongside Leap 15.0. Since then I changed my mind and decided that instead of making fork of existing theme I will try to pitch you a new and probably better idea and ask for some help ;) I took a look at openSUSE's history with theming, looked at every previous iteration of looks openSUSE was given along the way, and decided that I in fact love Sonar. You see, Sonar was a GTK2 theme all about color green and gradients, one of those things aged well, another, not really. So I opened up my trusted inkscape and started coming up with ways to make this theme interesting and modern. When I was finished I sent two mockups (which differed in style quite a lot) to Breeze GTK creator without telling any context what-so-ever, and he instantly recognized them as that "theme that openSUSE used back in the days". So I got the most important parts covered. We also were complimenting elements of older styles and bashing Ambiance for being unimaginative and boring as dust. https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/184821797307285504/43674619538217370… https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/184821797307285504/43674609300747059… Some elements of Sonar are really neat, others need to go. Gradients everywhere are just not fasionable nowadays, taking this screenshot as example: https://cn.pling.com/img/hive/content-pre3/128672-3.png We are much more keen on: - Pill shaped elements - Consistent rounded corners - Brighter colors - Circles - Lighter borders Things that we are still keen on: - Barber shop loading bars - List even element highlighting - Understandable and well known methaphors for existing elements (We are not Stanleys Kubricks to break well known conventions in favor of something ridiculous, it's still user usable UI) Another idea came from necessity, I really dislike Material Design's elements, some of them seem forced, but it's nice to have a style to base off of, that is when it hit me. I worked on "Fedora Live SIG" branding for Axel, because I wasn't the biggest fan of his previous results with elements of it. Then another person pointed out to me that style in which I designed "BRB" panel resembled old TV, colors, layout, everything. That way I found out about Strenuous 3D font which turned out to be inspiration to how I decided to design buttons. Material Design uses paper equivalents, however on press of button, button seemingly lifts up for some reason, I didn't like that, so I made up my own way of doing buttons with flat shadows in 50s-70s style. One can hardly tell which window is the one having focus. The active and inactive window only differ in the color of the window title text, and only minimally so. 2. The window title bar buttons for Minimize, Maximize and Close all look the same when not hovered over. With window managers offering free reordering of these buttons, it is impossible to tell which is which. There appears to be a minimal change in Green value, but is so slight that at first I put it off as a TFT monitor viewing angle artifact, but GIMP confirmed my theory. 3. Rollup and Stick look totally different from Minimize/Maximize/Close. 4. The borders around widgets like text entry fields and buttons is barely noticable. 5. No borders at all around notebook tabs. 6. The general window background is white-ish, but the taskbar is darkgray. That is a rather unusual choice, and might be an error. 7.
