SUSE Enterprise 9 AMD 64 install on Penguin Atlus 1000 server issue
Has any of you guys tried to install SUSE Enterprise 9 AMD 64 on one of the penguin Atlus 1000 server ? It is a Dual Opteron box with 1 G of RAM. I can't seem to get the install kernel to boot properly, it states some machine Check exceptions around the line CPU 0 IO APIC and stops. I've tried various options such as noacpi, acpi=oldboot, nodma, nothing seem to help. I can boot from the 32-bit 2.6.X kernels just fine, it is just the 64bit 2.6.X that's giving me a problem.
Ok, I got past the error with the nomce kernel parameter, but now the install complains about "Error -3 decompressing", I know it isn't the CD's fault since I also copied the install CD to HD and Still the same error. -----Original Message----- From: Frank Li (frali) [mailto:frali@cisco.com] Sent: Wednesday, September 08, 2004 12:16 PM To: suse-amd64@suse.com Subject: [suse-amd64] SUSE Enterprise 9 AMD 64 install on Penguin Atlus 1000 server issue Has any of you guys tried to install SUSE Enterprise 9 AMD 64 on one of the penguin Atlus 1000 server ? Are you sure you don't have memory problems? I would suggest 12+hours of running memtest86 -Andi

Does it boot with mce=off ? If not please connect a serial console, use console=ttyS0,baud and post the whole failed boot log. -Andi
