RE: [suse-amd64] Fortran Compilers for AMD64
Not sure what you mean by `user-friendliness' for a compiler... I've did a bit of comparison between g77 and PGI's pgf77. The PGI compiler seems produce code that runs 15-20% faster than that produced by g77. This is on dual Opteron 244 running SLES8. Andy

Hi,
I have to decide on a good Fortran compiler for my dual Opteron system running SuSE 9.0 AMD64. Does anybody have recommendations on which compiler to use? I'd be interested in konwing more about both performance and user friendliness.
Regards, Terri

I'd say that e.g. a bundled powerfull debugger and
comprehensive manuals make a compiler more
'user-friendly' than one without. Also, if the code is
optimized well with the standard settings, I'd call
this user friendly.
