Hi, I need some information about SUSE Linux running on following notebook with AMD Turion 64 ML-40: http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/de/de/sm/WF06b/21259-282919-282919-282919-297... I read in the archives (21.09.2005 - 24.09.2005: "SuSE 9.3 slow on Turion64 (nx6125)") that there were problems on this notebook with older SUSE versions in the past. Did all the problems disappear with OpenSUSE 10.0? Is it working with SLES 9? What about USB 2.0 / Firewire / WLAN? What about the ATI-64-Bit-drivers for SUSE 10.0 and SLES 9? Are they running fast and stable? All detailed information is welcomed! Thank you all in advance! -- Echte DSL-Flatrate dauerhaft fr 0,- Euro*! "Feel free" mit GMX DSL! http://www.gmx.net/de/go/dsl

I am using an Pavilion dv8050ea, there is few differences between this two computers. After a real nigthmare installing Suse-10 (and others), i decide to install & compile the last stock kernel (2.6.15) in Suse-10, after that, and few configuration changes, everything is working well. Only few things resists . - WiFi with WEP or WPA but i think this is a problem of wpa_supplicant - burning dvd's (very new issue) - Win-modem My inspiration source: http://tuxmobil.org/cpu_64bit.html Good luck. -- Bye, Manu. Yes, some of the hardware is a bit new. > Did all the problems disappear with OpenSUSE 10.0? I had SUSE 10.0 retail on it. Worked fine except for a few small issues - PCMCIA didn't work on boot, I had to unload and reload the modules. I think these are more related to the version of the kernel than anything else. If you load a newer kernel (kernel-of-the-day, say) it should be fine. ATI graphics worked without any problems, so does sound. Everything basically. All I haven't tried so far is the modem and card reader. > Is it working with SLES 9? Haven't tried but I think the same would apply. If you load a new kernel it should be fine. > What about USB 2.0 / Firewire / WLAN? USB works, Fireware uses the ohci1394.ko module Wireles uses ndiswrapper. This is the only somewhat tricky part, because the notebook ships with 32bit Windows, so you need to source the 64bit from elsewhere. I got it on the ACER website. Read the README.SUSE included with ndiswrapper on SUSE. The wireless isn't fantastic (not if you're used to an Intel or Atheros based chip) but I think it's just not the best chip - it doesn't impress me in Windows either. It was a little wonky in the beginning, but I think with the updated kernels whatever issues there were have been dealt with - it's running completely stable now. > What about the ATI-64-Bit-drivers for SUSE 10.0 and SLES 9? (again, with SUSE 10.0 - haven't done SLES) > All detailed information is welcomed! The integrated Bluetooth works well too. The only thing I found is you really need to up the memory on it. I have a gig now and it's just running nicely. 512 isn't enough for KDE and all the nice apps in 64bit mode (very subjective observation). Another thing I would suggest is make sure you get the model with 1400x1050 resolution - it's perfect for the screen: not too small to read comfortably, and you can get a fair amount of stuff in on the screen.
