But why? Why do the devs feel the need to force stuff on us? I'm
constantly removing that crappy Bonjour service on WinDoZe machines to free
up resources, and I have yet to see any advantage to something like avahi.
Same with pulse audio.

Maybe you should take a look at the Gentoo distribution.
You have to compile everything yourself (but that is easy&automated) and
you can specify which deps you don't want with USE-flags.

Warning: Gentoo is not pointyclick oriented. ;-)
