If this is still a problem with the 8.9 and above drivers then there is not
point in my upgrading. Also how are would it be to go from the RPM driver to
that driver I wonder.

By biggest problem is with the 8.8 driver, installed via RPM from the repo, is

The 8.9 driver (Version 8.532) has been a very solid driver, and in my
opinion, the best release yet. The openSuSE repositories currently have the
8.8 driver (Version 8.522) which was also a solid driver. For reasons I
don't yet understand, the 8.10 driver (Version 8.542) runs slow. It runs
fine, works with Compiz fine, it is just slow. If you want to try the
driver from ATI, I suggest you download the 8.9 driver which is:
