We've been having some interesting discussions over on the factory
mailing list, and it was pointed out that maybe we were ignoring the
regular users, so I figured I'd give it a shot and see how things have
been going for those using KDE in openSUSE 11.0.

General questions I have for you are:

1. Which KDE are you using, v3.x or v4.x?
I have tried out KDE 4.1. Now I use Gnome, and earlier (when I had open Suse 10.3) I have used KDE 3.
2. If you are using KDE4, what are your thoughts? Better than KDE3
or Gnome? Worse?
Worse than both.
3. If you are using KDE4, have you updated to the current v4.1.x
build that is available or are you still using the v4.0.x build that
came with the installation?
see above
4. If you have used KDE3 in the past, and are using KDE4 now, do you
feel that it is a good replacement for KDE3? Strengths of KDE4?
Weaknesses?
I did not experience any strengths of KDE 4 because I have aborted my tests very soon.
Weaknesses:
- when i first started KDE 4.1, my first thought was that the desktop layout were corrupted and that I had got the wrong screen resolution. Soon i have realized that it is all deliberate. The shut-down icon in the lower right corner looks like a bunch of icons laying over each other. The same is for the strange icon at the left side of the task bar. The strange red thing in the upper right corner looks as if most part of it is outside the screen. That's why i first thought my screen resolution is wrong.
- second: nothing works as intuitively as in KDE 3. You cannot simply drag the icons from the desktop to the task bar or vice versa, if you right- click at the desktop, there is no option to create a new shortcut, and when i tried to start Yast from the start menu, just nothing happened. At that point i was fed up and returned to my gnome desktop.
5. Do you like the look and feel of KDE in either KDE3 or KDE4? If
not, what would improve it?
the handling of KDE 3 is OK, but i find the graphical design of gnome better. KDE 4 is IMHO a desaster.
Thanx
