konqueror is an all in one solution. It is a file manager, a web browser, a 
document viewer and a few other things that I rarely use

dolphin on the other hand is only a file manager. It is the idea of the 
developers that if they focus on that one thing, they will be able to do it 
better. Sort of like the unix ideal of "do one thing and do it well", but many 
people prefer the all-in-one approach of konqi

It's a matter of taste, really. Konqueror isn't likely to go away anytime 
soon, so choose what you prefer
