network browsing in 9.3 KDE

I have two 9.3 systems that you cannot browse the network in, using
KDE (updated to 3.4) Neither of them will find my server's nfs share
and let the user mount it, though fstab has the info and will mount it
from Gnome. Gnome is on one machine only. How can I resolve the
network browsing problem, and the user finding the share to mount?
