I found an old press release
( http://press.nokia.com/PR/200505/996537_5.html ):
The Nokia 770 Internet Tablet is based on Linux and widely deployed
Open Source technologies like GNOME. At the core of the Nokia 770
Internet Tablet is Hildon Application Framework, which is based on
GNOME technology.
Unfortunately, the recent description on the Nokia is not that
enlightening as far as the software is concerned.
