mouse not working on compaq PL1600R ??

During installation of 10.0 I saw :
Found Linux console ....
Please supply config file
dmesg says:
logips2pp: Detected unknown logitech mouse model 1
input: PS/2 Logitech Mouse on isa0060/serio1
The mouse works fine in Compaq SmartStart, but not in e.g. sax2 or
elsewhere. Any hints as to where to start troubleshooting this?
