[opensuse-project] Re: [opensuse-factory] Request to change MS6 to Beta

I seriously wonder why you think that beta releases attract more testers -

back - but I'm willing to try. The question though is: how do you measure if
it made any difference?

Although I have been an openSUSE and SuSE user since 6.3, I have only been involved with testing the pre-releases since 11.1, and I only remember the milestone/rc days. If you accept that a "beta" version is feature-complete and free of huge bugs, then MS5 or MS6 match those criteria; however, I would be hard pressed to categorize MS1 or MS2 as alpha.

I'm not sure how the measure the success of this change. The only things that count are the number and severity of the bugs in the final release. I certainly want to avoid another case like 11.3 GM where all networking was broken by two different critical bugs.

I am not trained in psychology, and I'm not sure what will attract testing; however, I certainly think that the publicity surrounding the release of the "one-and-only" Beta version will have more news impact than the "sixth-of-six" Milestones will; however, it is clear that we need to hit other news outlets than those within the traditional openSUSE family.
