Now that I think: gmame does gating of our mail lists to an NNTP
interface, on both directions. Couldn't such a thing be used to somehow
integrate these mail lists and our forums via nntp?

It could be done - the technical side isn't so difficult to manage, but
the "cultural" side of that integration might be the bigger challenge.

I understand that gmame requires somekind of registration, to validate your
email. It could be done
on a different server than the forum nntp, and have different rules (if
wanted). As a first step :-?
