I prefer the Dos 2.1 solution to the screen splash issue. When the splash
screen comes up, quickly write a post it note with KDE 3.5.3 on it and attach
it to the center of the monitor. After the desktop comes up then remove it
until the next reboot. Magically the computer software version number is
always correct.
