Hmm, this way several config files (KDM, Postfix, Apache...) will need
to be rebuilt each time the application is started. Unless I miss
something, I don't consider this a good idea ;-)

I think you missed my point ;-)

Yes, the root mails are forwarded to a user. There's no problem with
this.

But it isn't obvious for beginners how to retreive these mails.
(Advanced users know they have to read /var/spool/mail/username,
beginners probably don't.)

My proposal: KMail, evolution and Thunderbird [1] should come with the
local mailbox account /var/spool/mail/username preconfigured so that
system mails will be received "automatically".

[1] no need in mutt, poeple using it probably know about
/var/spool/mail ;-)
