[opensuse-project] New members running for board
Hi all, as far as I can see the "new" membership process is still under rework. As there are three board seats open and people needed to fill them (and do the work included) I wanted to know: Is joining openSUSE and directly running for board something totally inappropriate? Or would it be worth the work stepping up and writing some words of intentions and plans? Would be great to hear you thoughts. Hi vinz, As you are discussing candidacy eligibility, this is a topic that only our election officials can give an authoritative answer to (CC'd) My personal thoughts, are that it is something I personally would like to see possible; Speaking from experience, I feel the Board operates best when it represents the diversity and vibrancy of our community, and that most certainly includes a new generation of fresh enthusiastic faces who may only recently be becoming openSUSE members. But, like I said, that's my personal view. So if you are a Member you can and should run for the board, if you want to. If you are not a Member, you can't.
I read the wiki pages and am aware of the facts. My question was rather directed into peoples opinions, not to say feelings, if someone unknown comes around, joins the project and immediately runs for board. I just don't want to step on someones feet if it's not necessary. But as Member you did not just join the project. You have shown continued and substantial contributions, which also means you are known by people. Sorry for the delay, Vinz. The rules are quite clear. If you are an openSUSE Member in Good Standing at the time you apply to be a Candidate, you are eligible to run. As for other peoples opinions, feelings, or their little toeseys, no need to worry about that. They can let their opinions help them decide who to vote for. I, and the rest of the Elections Committee, say: Go for it. Let's get several good Candidates running in this election. BTW: No need to send your campaign material to the Elections Committee. We do not make decisions based on that. The decisions are based on the rules, alone. All you need to do is provide us with proof (give us a link, f.e.) that your Membership has been approved. Member in good standing? That means, following our Guidelines of conduct, and having already been accepted by the Membership Committee. No time limit implied in any rule. The only other BIG rule is, no more than a certain number from any one company or organization. Does not look like you fail, there, either. Good luck.
