[opensuse-factory] Kernel 4.4 and missing secondary display

Hi, With the update to kernel 4.4, my secondary display went dark. This is on a Sandybridge graphics system with an Intel mainboard, the same problem persists with 4.4.1 and 4.5-rc1 kernels from OBS (Kernel:Stable and Kernel:HEAD), while a 4.3.3 from home:tiwai:kernel:4.3 makes the display connected to "HDMI2" (actually the DVI connector) work again fine - the main display on "HDMI1" (HDMI connector of the mainboard) works fine with all those kernel variants. Should this be reported on the openSUSE Bugzilla for Tumbleweed, or on the Freedesktop one for the Intel driver directly - or perhaps on both? Hello, I just had an interesting[tm] problem - updating to the latest tumbleweed failed at random places. It turned out that my btrfs / partition was full. Not with df -h (which reported some GB free), but "btrfs fi show" showed 100% usage. (Sorry for not including the exact output - I didn't save it.) I moved 15 GB of libvirt images to a different partition and deleted some old snapshots, but both didn't help. After some searching (and temporaryly breaking my /, which I could luckily repair with snapper rollback), I found out [1] that I should run btrfs balance start / -dlimit=3 which freed quite some space. Another run freed even more space, so I decided to run it without the limit: btrfs balance start / After that, I'm down to # btrfs fi show Label: none uuid: 9f4a918d-fcd4-45d3-a1dc-7b887300eabc Total devices 1 FS bytes used 22.91GiB devid 1 size 50.00GiB used 25.31GiB path /dev/mapper/cboltz-root Even if you re-add the 15 GB libvirt images in the calculation, this still means the rebalance freed about 10 GB = 20% of the partition size. So the good news is that I could solve the problem. The bad news is that it happened at all. Should there be a cronjob that does the rebalancing or other btrfs maintenance regularly? Bonus question: snapper list shows that snapshot #1 ("first root filesystem") is still kept. Is this snapshot needed for something, or can I safely delete it? BTW: a funny detail is: # btrfs balance start / WARNING: Full balance without filters requested. This operation is very intense and takes potentially very long. It is recommended to use the balance filters to narrow down the balanced data. Use 'btrfs balance start --full-balance' option to skip this warning. [opensuse-factory] What's new in OpenLDAP

Hello fellow Factory users. There are some interesting progress going on with OpenLDAP package. Feature wise, OpenLDAP will soon be able to check password strength and enforce password strength policies that will comply with your IT needs, the feature comes in new package "ppolicy-check-module" and please read ppolicy-check-password.5 (https://build.opensuse.org/package/view_file/network:ldap/openldap2/ppolicy…) if you are interested to find out more. Apart from the new feature, a decision had to be made to determine the appropriate package for file /etc/openldap/ldap.conf - a system-wide configuration file for all client applications that link against LDAP library. Here are the facts: - ldap.conf is a system-wide configuration file, shared by all client applications that link against LDAP library. - LDAP library will automatically load parameters from ldap.conf, but it will not complain if the file is missing or empty. - ldap.conf used to belong to openldap2-client package, which contains command line utilities for interacting with an LDAP server. However, since ldap.conf is made for more than the command line utilities, the file was moved into libldap to live with the library .so files. But there's an important decision to be made, and I would love to hear your opinion: should ldap.conf belong in libldap package at all? The argument against it says that in the future, if OpenLDAP upstream releases a new version and breaks backward-compatibility, AND if both new release and current release must be supported by openSUSE, the ldap.conf will become a file conflict between libldap-New-And-Incompatible and libldap-2.4 (current). At the same time, the arguments supporting placement of ldap.conf inside libldap cites the fact that libldap uses ldap.conf by contract and hence they should belong together. Moreover, OpenLDAP-New-And-Incompatible is nowhere to be seen at this momemt. So what do you think? Dear listmembers, when building system components with additional 32bit compatibility (think of glibc ...) the avaiability of i586 rpms is mandatory. However, SUSE does not provide an even minimum set of i586 rpms that could be used to create w32 rpms by build <packagename>.src.rpm linux32 build <packagename>.src.rpm and finally /usr/lib/build/mkbaselibs -c /usr/lib/build/baselibs_global.conf -c baselibs.conf /home/${USER}/rpmbuild/RPMS/i586/<packagename>*.rpm In the very moment say leap runs out of service (what can definitively be anticipated ...) one cannot even help oneself, what I'd consider very bad. Guess you have a server up and running - no way to upgrade packages as I currently see. Moreover, the files must all exist because openSUSE provides the corresponding packages - so, without a wich nobody could build them given they would not exist. The additional effort would be to make them available for the public. Therefore I want to ask SUSE to provide a repository not containing the full featured set of packages but that provides all packages neccessary for the chroot build environment to help oneself. I had opened a bug in this regard (968112), because it was not clear to me where to ask, Andreas Stieger suggested to post this request here. Thank you for looking into this. [opensuse-factory] Introducing BPF Compiler Collection (BCC)

Hi, I would like to introduce a new package to factory: BPF Compiler Collection (BCC). It's a python/c library (mostly for python, actually) to make it easier to load and attach eBPF programs to kprobe/uprobe events or sockets. Without bcc, the user has to write the Makefile and feed the kernel header paths to clang to compile the eBPF C code into a BPF object file, while it can be done with python-bcc in one line: bpf = BPF(src_file="bpf.c") So it's very convenient for kernel tracing and packet filtering. In fact, there is already a rich set of tracing tools in the package. See: https://github.com/iovisor/bcc#tools It could be useful tool for the developers. Besides, the support of the P4 language is under development. In the future, it could compile the P4 programs from the SDN controller to the switch into BPF programs for the linux kernel, and this would make bcc a nice tool for the network administrators. The package is already available in my branch: obs://home:gary_lin:iovisor/bcc The following rpm packages are created: libbcc0 python-bcc bcc-devel bcc-tools bcc-examples bcc-tools and bcc-examples would require some extra python packages such as python-future and python-pyroute2. Those two packages are already in obs://devel:language:python. Currently, there are some known issues: 1. Bcc is not working in Tumbleweed. This is actually a LLVM/Clang bug. GCC5 introduced the new C++11 ABI tags, and clang still doesn't support those tags. Since bcc utilizes LLVM/Clang to compile the BPF programs, it suffers the same issue. The LLVM bug: https://llvm.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=23529 2. Some scripts in bcc-tools/bcc-examples are not working in Leap 42.1. It's because those scripts use the newer eBPF kernel APIs. Since eBPF is still evolving, the new APIs keep coming. Upgrading kernel from Kernel:stable shall work. I incline to submit bcc to Base:System. Any suggestion? Hi list, So I've got an nVidia adapter and I'm using proprietary drivers maintained by @sndirsch. I'm not following driver updates closely and am updating them occasionally, mostly after I upgrade kernel and find drivers broken. Which happened yesterday (kernel got bumped to v4.4.1), so I've updated working copy of package, rebuilt RPMs, installed them, rebooted PC and got black screen instead of GDM prompt. Journald logs didn't have anything concerning except systemd-modprobe warning "Process 1729 (gnome-shell) of user 483 dumped core." by systemd-coredump. I recently upgraded from 13.2 over Leap 42.1 to Tumbleweed. I also had to update to the newest Tumbleweet snapshot today. It's a bit annoying, that it's necessary to reinstall the proprietary NVidia driver after each of these upgrade steps. Otherwise modern desktops like KDE and GNOME may refuse to start. There is probably a failure in this guide: SDB:NVIDIA the hard way section "openSUSE Tumbleweed and Leap" https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:NVIDIA_the_hard_way "NVIDIA proprietary driver works flawlessly on Leap; for Tumbleweed the driver is almost always compatible. However, please keep in mind that you must re-install the driver (simply by running the installer program) after each kernel upgrade." I found, that re-installing the NVidia driver is also necessary after each Xorg/Mesa upgrade. Probably some Xorg/Mesa packages mess-up the NVidia libraries. Could someone with write access to the SDB article fix this? Hi all on the list, I updated to TW snapshot 20161222 today and wanted to try out the new kjots. However, I only see this error when launching it through Application Menu: KDEInit could not launch '/usr/bin/kjots' but it starts from Konsole. Should there also be a plugin for Kontact? Hopefully, anybody can help.

[opensuse-factory] SR workflow + beware Tumbleweed nodejs users: do *not* update to 5.6.0

Hi! Today I had the chance to submit my first SR to a larger project (nodejs), because it had been broken in the devel project. I've been using the development project, because a few month back the version in Tumbleweed was broken and I forgot to switch back. After a recent update, the development version broke, so I provided a fix for it. The SR actually got rejected with the comment, that my changes have been merged into some other development project, where an update is performed. Of course this hides the credits for the actual fix, but that's fine with me. While browsing through the project, I realized a pending SR from the devel project into factory. I added a comment, stating that this should never be accepted, because it totally breaks the installation. One hour later, the SR actually got accepted and is now in factory. I don't think, openQA will find the issue and I guess, this broken version will be pushed to Tumbleweed users, soon. So to all Tumbleweed users relying on nodejs, please do *not* upgrade to 5.6.0. Once 5.7.0 is published, everything should be fine, again. Now what puzzles me: what should I have done to have this SR prevented from being accepted? The commenting system does not seem to be enough. Sometimes, I've seen a "review" option in the SR, but it was not there for this particular SR (may be, because somebody already "reviewed it as green", or I'm not allowed to add a review to SR for factory). I'm just curious, what I should do, should such a situation happen, again. A second thing, I'd like to know, is how to proceed, now. Should I open another SR to the devel project? Because the update to the next version still seems to be pending with failing build, so it might still take a while. I just want the Tumbleweed version to be fixed ASAP. Currently, I have a working branch installed, so everything is fine for me ;) Of course I also care for my fellow Tumbleweed users. best regards julian

Hi, I managed to update texlive 20150521: https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/home:MargueriteSu:branches:Publishi… it builds successfully for Leap and TW. here are some leaf problems I need help: 1. where could I find changelog for texlive 2015? I mean major changes 2. openSUSE 13.2 won't build due to http://paste.opensuse.org/68437610 but texlive 2015 has supported poppler 0.26. so can anyone have a look at it? My C skill is not enough for it. 3. in specfile, there're many version tags with svn commit number. eg: %package a2ping-bin Version: %{texlive_version}.%{texlive_release}.svn27321 how did these different "svn27321" determined? I could find any .svn inside texlive 2015 source. Thanks for the help! And texlive 2015 is on its way.
