[opensuse-factory] new packages: libdbi & libdbi-drivers

Hello, I'd like to add two packages to Factory, libdbi and libdbi-drivers. Both were already available in Contrib, moving them to factory would enable me to add database support to syslog-ng. URL : http://libdbi.sourceforge.net/ Summary : Database Independent Abstraction Layer for C Description : libdbi implements a database-independent abstraction layer in C, similar to the DBI/DBD layer in Perl. Writing one generic set of code, programmers can leverage the power of multiple databases and multiple simultaneous database connections by using this framework. And libdbi-drivers provides the actual drivers for different databases (sqlite3, mysql, pgsql). Both packages were around for a very long time and worked without any problems so far. I tested it with syslog-ng and logging to database worked fine using libdbi and libdbi-drivers. the name and purpose Name of the package is Autokey. AutoKey is a desktop automation utility for Linux and X11. It allows you to manage collection of scripts, and assign abbreviations and hotkeys to these scripts allowing you to execute them on demand in whatever program you are using. how long has it been around? it's been around since january 2008 how well has it been tested? Hello, I want to put the package autokey into Tumbleweed. But according to Greg autokey is not accepted in Factory. I have made a SR for this package to x11:common Factory which is accepted. Which steps do I have to take to get this package accepted ? [opensuse-factory] Multiple Firefox versions possible from usual repos?

Firefox 4.0b and SeaMonkey 2.1b have adopted a new "standard"/broken behavior to fix a 0.75:1 ratio between pt and px, copying IE8/Webkit/Opera inane behavior. For some purposes, this definitely breaks things. Consequently, the older version is needed until an opt out for the new broken behavior is implemented, if ever that may occur. Is it possible to keep FF3.6.13 and add FF4.0b? I tried modifying zypp.conf to add ,provides:multiversion(MozillaFirefox), but 'zypper in MozillaFirefox' wants to upgrade Firefox rather than installing it. Is keeping both possible? Hello, What is the current status of systemd? Yesterday I wanted to give it a try because of the syslog-ng integration, but once I installed systemd and systemd-sysvinit, and used "init=/bin/systemd" I could not login to my machine any more. I get: "cannot make/remove an entry for the specified session" message on console. [opensuse-factory] Firefox 3.6.12 crashes

Hi, I have to handle a (now outdated) diskless openSUSE 11.1 desktop installation of about 30 systems in a company network. One of the customizations is Firefox 3.6.12 from the mozilla repo, consisting of MozillaFirefox-3.6.12-1.2, mozilla-xulrunner192-1.9.2.12-1.2, ... Kernel is a 2.6.31.13 also based on the openSUSE trees on gitorious. Unfortunately, I'm getting complains of Firefox crashing often during the day without any user interaction, just displaying occasionly updated sites (without flash content), and I do suffer from these crashes, too. A few data points: Previous versions from that repo doesn't show this behavior. In that installation, only Firefox, flash and acrobat reader were updated lately, everything else was being kept as is for a few month running (rock solid!), therefor I can say, that this problem is triggered by changes in firefox related packages. Hi, I wanted to give some more weight on feature 310964 (openvpn-config). So i tried to login onto feature,opensuse.org, but all i immediately get (on an old firefox) is: "error establishing an encrypted connection to static.opensuse,org, error code -8048" My first assumption, was that i had my firewall too tight, but after putting it for a moment wide-open, the error remainded. =================================================================== Currently it says: Description Many people today use an OpenVPN server to access their personal networks or networks at work. The set up of an OpenVPN server is complex also, as several adjustments must be made at various points in the system. e.g. OpenVPN Configfile, SUSEFirewall, /etc/sysconfig Files. A module would make it easier to set up a OpenVPNserver. =================================================================== Allthough the setting-up of a _single_ vpn (openvpn/ipsec) seems a hard job to do at first, it is doable. Allthough a simpe yast-module might be very much welcomed by inexperienced users. On the other hand, if you have to maintain a lot of tunnels, 100, 1000, more (...) you have a much bigger challenge. When having to maintain this amount of tunnels, works breaks down, imho, into following ereas: - certificate management - maintaining tunnel parameters (easy deployment from template) - security-settings (iptables, ebtables, apparrmor, ...) - guarding tunnelconditions (up/down, saturation) I am not talking about the management of client/server-certificates, as there are enough good product dealing with that aspect (yaST-CA, ejbca rhcs) And tunnel conditions can be guarded with products like OpenNMS. But the vast amount of parameters (ta-keys, routing, compressions, ...) that have to be maintained for roadwarriors or site/site connections is a much bigger problem. Much to my colleage's surprise there isn't even a commercial package for handling this. I tried to get people interested from fwbuilder, as it could be another module in their framework, but they declined. [opensuse-factory] Kdepim4 in Factory repo

I noticed that in KDE Factory, kdepim4-devel and libkdepim4-devel are at version 4.4.4. Is it going to be bumped to 4.6? I trying to bug fix for KDE, but I can't without kdepim4-devel version 4.6 and libkdepim4-devel version 4.6 in the repos. (Oddly enough, all the core and development kdepim4 packages are at 4.6, just not these two). Hello, I prepared updated syslog-ng packages with the close supervision of Marius Tomaschewski, the maintainer of the syslog-ng package. They are available in home:czanik in the openSUSE BS. I would like to see these packages included in Factory, to replace the ancient 2.0 syslog-ng, but MT seems to have disappeared (no response to e-mails in the past two weeks). Questions: - it works fine on my machines, but could anybody else test it? - what is the proper way to get syslog-ng updated in factory, if the maintainer seems to be unavailable? - I have now both 3.0 and 3.1 packages there, called syslog-ng and syslog-ng31. The ultimate goal is to include 3.1. Should I drop the current syslog-ng package and rename syslog-ng31 to syslog-ng? [opensuse-factory] Were can i find the correct startup command for courier-imap?

Hi, I want to startup courier-imap, but with: /etc/rc.d/courier-imap start bash returns: courier-imap: command not found In the /etc/rc.d/ are many files.. A lot of them have an asterisk in front of them, when looked upon in mc. Hello- Hitting an issue with a netinstall of Factory. The dialog box the installer pops up is: Unable to create repository from URL 'http://download.opensuse.org/factory/repo/oss'. Details: Rpm Exception Try again? I tried various mirrors but that didn't improve anything. Is this an intermittent mirror issue? Hi, I am trying to perform a netinstall to setup an imap server. I have downloaded all 3 Net.iso's, but neither of them can find the repo. Does anyone know where to point the installer to? I understand the reasons we don't install Codecs with openSUSE - we don't have licenses for them, they may be patent encumbered, blah blah.. but we also have infrastructure for other data and software that have similar conditions. We can help the user find what they need even if we can't distribute it ourselves. So, we already pull in flash player. We already pull in the MS TrueType fonts. We already provide infrastructure to automatically locate and install firmware for several devices that require firmware that can't be freely redistributed. So why is it that we don't offer something similar for codecs? I have friends that are eager to install openSUSE on their machines -- not even techies -- because they are sick of all the crap they have to put up with on Windows when all they really want to do is browse the web, read their email, listen to some music, laugh at some funny flash animations, watch youtube or other downloaded videos. The expressions on their faces when I spend 15 minutes setting up the system to install are pretty neutral - it's pretty easy. The expressions on their faces when they see how many ridiculous hoops I need to jump through to configure the Packman repository and then replace the codecs changes to exasperation when I tell them the reason I had to do all that was only so that they could listen to their MP3s or watch some video. Sure, some of them are interested peripherally in the reasons why I have to do that, but most people have a nervous laugh wondering if everything they're going to be doing with the system is going to be this hard. Hey, A while ago, Dominique worked on updating gwenhywfar and aqbanking to new upstream versions. It was blocked for a while because it required an update to a development version of gnucash, and it also required a new libchipcard. I think we're now ready to do this. So, unless someone shouts loud, in the very next few days we will: + push gwenhywfar 4.0.x, aqbanking 5.0.x, gnucash 2.3.x (rc of 2.4) to Factory + drop libchipcard 4, since it probably won't work with gwenhywfar 4 (libchipcard 5 is already in factory, but waiting for gwenhywfar 4) As far as I can tell, this won't break anything in Factory, so I plan to do that before the week-end, so we can hopefully get this in the next milestone. On a Piii system with last dup @ M1 ~6 weeks ago, I did zypper dup to M4, then dup to current Factory. When I started, / freespace was @ 88% (1 installed kernel). It's now at 99% (4837465 1k blocks, available 84783, 23 installed kernels), even after zypper clean and emptying /tmp. Hi! There are several improvements in the stable branch (version 9713) of SpiderOak since version 9681 (presently in openSUSE:Factory:NonFree). There are listed in their release notes online [1]. If there is nobody else looking at this upgrade, I am willing to do it today. Is this okay (since it is non-free and I don't know if there is a version freeze already in effect for this)? [opensuse-factory] temporary segfault with zypper & yast

a strange thing happened today: trying to update all newer packages via YAST, the software manager, after solving all dependency problems, started to download for a second, then exited w/o error. "zypper up" brought up a new agreement form for an oS 11.4 licence, then segfaulted. no help in zypper.log or y2log, but /var/log/messages had this to say: ----------- Dec 9 11:29:12 phani kernel: [ 3610.153426] zypper[17239] general protection ip:7f953c30ca6f sp:7fff67f49d50 error:0 in libcurl.so.4.2.0[7f953c2e2000+5a000] ----------- i re-tried several times, after successfully running "zypper ref -f" and "rpmdb --rebuilddb", with the same result: segfault. finally i thought there might be something wrong with one of the factory repos, so i disabled OSS & non-OSS, after which both zypper up & yast updated their new packages w/o problem. next thing i enabled OSS and then non-OSS again, and no further error happened. updates from OSS included rpm and rpm-python, but since there have not been any changes to the rpm system prior to the error, i don't think that's relevant. in any case, things are working ok for me again; i'm just wondering what did happen, and if it happened to other factory users as well? [opensuse-factory] Adding Horde related packages to openSUSE Factory

Hi, I am about to submitrequest the Horde Groupware and Webmail applications from server:php:applications to openSUSE Factory. Because this is the first time I do this, I want to discuss any objections beforehand. Horde is a set of PHP applications for collaboration and messaging as well as a framework for web application development. It has been around Suse and openSUSE for quite some time, but a one point lost active packagers. The Horde Project is one of the oldest and largest free PHP applications and has a considerable userbase around the world. Used by universities and government agencies, horde has also been included into the Kolab Groupware as its web client and into cpanel as a webmail solution. The current packages are based on horde 3.3.x which is a mature and well- tested production version which will be in upstream maintainance for the scheduled lifetime of openSUSE 11.4. Having developed applications based on horde myself, I recently picked up the horde rpms in server:php:applications, added a few new modules and updated the existing ones. I am interested in keeping the packages current and bugfixed for the forseeable future. I as many other do have a laptop that has wired and wireless networking as standard but sometimes i need to use a Mobile broadband dongal USB what is needed is an easy way to completely stop the wired and wireless networking to use the mobile system , The reason for this is that if wireless is disconnected but enabled then you can not get a route via the mobile connection you have to completely disable the wireless to use the mobile and easy way to do this is a much needed addition a means of picking which networking device is active . Is anyone working on or aware of current NTP packages for openSUSE? I'm working on setting up a Samba 4 AD domain on openSUSE and NTP 4.2.5 or later is required compiled with the --enable-ntp-signd option. <https://support.ntp.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=1028> I've searched high and low and not been able to find anymore more recent than 4.2.4p8 and without the required options to server W32 time in an AD domain. <http://www.ntp.org/downloads.html> Rumor is that the latest Ubuntu ships a compatible package; I haven't checked that out yet. BTW, Bind 9.7.2 built --with-gssapi is also required for Samba4 & AD client dynamic updates. Hey Group; Fresh install of openSuSE confirmed good DVD straight to the hardisk. I am just about to dump openSuSE because, So much of it is just broken but the X Windows stuff and some of that fails. On a machine with an Athlon 64 with 1 Gig of memory and lots of HD will not compile a factory linux-2.6.37.# kernel using /proc/config.gz (implying .config.gz doesn't agree with "make menuconfig") and other problems are X windows being forced to use drm and nouveau have the monitor not centered and so dark a sheet over the monitor and your head is needed to see it in the dark. Plus Amarok and Blinder fail. And finally! The mouse at console fails to work even after configured with Yast2 and restarted. There's in bugzilla a user from Australia. Currently during installation, you choose a language at the first screen and then automatically the keyboard is changed to the primary keyboard for that language. He and others from Australia install with language "English (UK)" but uses an US keyboard - and apparently the US keyboard is common in most of the commonwealth. Since these users than do not change the keyboard setting, they have a system installed that does not work for them with their keyboard. for details see: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=656023 Is this a common problem? Should we change it - and has anybody a good idea on how to change it? For me as German, I like the way that if I select "German" as language, I get a German keyboard setup automatically, so I do not want to move away from that one. I see right now the following options: 1) Leave everything as is and close the bugreport as WONTFIX. 2) Handle "English (UK)" special and use the "English US" keyboard. 3) Do not change keyboard at all. 4) Add some more locales, like "English (AU)" that use English (UK) as language but English US keyboard. 5) Any other ideas? Following a successful trial with 11.4M3 (Build 845) I've successfully downloaded openSUSE-DVD-Build0845_Build0908-i586.delta.iso (the md5 checks out OK) but using applydeltaiso from 11.3 (standard x64 version) I get an internal md5 sum failure at package wine-32bit (this after many packages have been processed correctly). Same error at glibc-devel when trying to create the M4 x64 version. All isos and deltas re-checked against published md5sums and are OK Is this an issue with 11.3's deltarpms package (yast says I have 3.5-6.1)? Hey Group; Question about a openSuSE 11.4 M3 x86-64 DVD system load leaving a 11.0 system behind (which worked). 1. How and where is the current location of a file similar to xorg.conf. This machine has a NVidia GeForce 7300 GS which is not guessed or driven correctly. Hey, here is a list of things that still need to be done, or need to be discussed how to be done. Note: there is a wiki page about this: http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Systemd_status And for any non-SUSE-specific bugs or requests, please use the upstream mailing list and bug tracker, not this list or the SUSE bugtracker. - systemd service files - a bunch of services need native systemd service files to replace the SYSV init script - some just need to be enabled in the build with: --with-systemdsystemunitdir=/lib/systemd/system - some needs to be packaged and taken from the Fedora packages - some needs to written - systemd/SYSV service management - the init scripts should call systemd if systemd is used, e.g. /etc/init.d/cups start" should either print a warning or call "systemctl start cups.service" directly - Fedora's systemd calls 'chkconfig' for SYSV scripts, so all services can be managed with 'systemctl'. - the YaST2 runlevel editor needs to be modified for systemd, the API of the runlevel editor is used by other YaST modules to enable/disable/query services - RPM package upgrade and systemd service files - systemd services should be enabled only the first time a systemd service files is shipped, depending on the current state of the sysv service. - systemd services are currently only enabled when the package is installed the first time, not with an update. - some SUSE packages ship systemd files, but don't enable the systemd service - replace SUSE-specific config files to new cross-distro configs: /etc/os-release (like /etc/SuSE-release) /etc/locale (replaces /etc/sysconfig/language) /etc/tmpfiles.d/ (replaces /etc/tmpdirs.d/) /etc/vconsole.conf (replaces /etc/sysconfig/keyboard,console) /etc/modules-load.d/ (replaces /etc/sysconfig/kernel::MODULES_LOADED ...) - some of the old SUSE-specific config files are read by systemd, but we should start using the new "Linux default" - splash integration - systemd supports only plymouth at the moment, possibly just switch to plymouth? - move X to tty1 - to avoid VT switch on bootup - to match systemd's getty1 logic - future systemd will support on-demand getty (getty2-6 are only started on VT switch) - getty1/X will be special, depending which "runlevel" is used - sort out the /etc/init.d/xdm config mess (how to convert that beast to a _proper_ systemd service?) - sort out the mess in /etc/init.d/syslog - probably just provide native service file for rsyslog, and disable the this weird script - systemd wants a syslog with socket activation, upstream rsyslog supports this already - sort out NetworkManager vs. sysconfig mess - starting NetworkManager from a the sysconfig init script, depending on a config variable is just weird - on Fedora NM can always be started and just leaves interfaces alone, that are configured in the "old scripts", all unconfigured interfaces are managed by NM. Hello, gnome-packagekit misses a dependecy on a Policykit authentication agent. My thinking is to do something along these lines: a) as early as possible and in the background, attempt network setup of the first nic with dhcp. b) if it works, get a countrycode (and zoom in map as we do today), make semi-educated guesses about language and keyboard.
