Hey Group; M7's checkinstall is not working. Every time I try it checkinstall fails on building the RPM. checkinstall-1.6.1-105.2.i586. Hi List, I Updated and D-Updated (zypper up; zypper dup) M6 to M7 (my 11.2 is a virtual guest system) then mouse control disappeared: the pointer stays freezed on the centre of ggreter. I tried both booting by marking and un-marking "ACPI" and "IO-ACPI" on Sun VirtualBox settings, as well as booting 11.2 from default or failsafe without any difference. Any suggestions? For instance application/zip -> Ark in KDE, FileRoller in GNOME. (2) Gdb's issue with gtk apps ============================= sbrabec pointed us to problem with debugging of non-threading Gtk apps using gdb. Due indirect pthread dependency from gtk-canberra plugin and ELF interposting used by glibc the resolved glibc symbols are non-thread, even if they'd be thread-safe. So gdb fails in this case. A workaround for running processes is deattach and reattach gdb. The one for core files is currently not known. (3) High number of bugs ======================= Some team members has a big number of opened bugs. So other team members will take a care about some of those to decrease a number of unresolved bugs. (4) Internal scripts ==================== Every team member use the own set of homebrewed scripts to increase his productivity. We discussed about possible merging and we started to collect a list of them. [opensuse-factory] M7 observations (resent)

For me M7/Build 268 is a major regression - it simply doesn't install. Context: Software: M7 IA32, NET iso, repo=factory. Hardware - Proliant server, dual Intel PIII, 256M RAM. Installation via SSH+HTTP. Installation on 2-drive RAID5 SCSI array behind Compaq Smart-Array. Initially the array is working fine, the controller reports no errors at start up. After loading M7, both drives are reported faulty (red LEDs on the hotswap trays are lit). 'dmesg' shows plenty of IO errors. I swapped both disks three times, same result. I tried booting with "noacpi apic=off maxcpus=0" - didn't change anything. So at begin, I suspect some problems related to Windows driver problem, by the fact that VirtualBox drivers are not Microsoft certified and they went installed by forcing the installation. There are two problems: By default, it saves locally all email from imap accounts: for a gmail account, this is terrible, I have thousands and thousands, and can't succeed, too many. I had to dissable it. The other is that now, when I hit "reply to all" on a mail list, I do get reply to all, instead of that trick we had that instead gave us the reply to list. Report of the DVD openSuSE 11.2 Milestone 7 First Boot K3b burned the DVD and checked it - OK in M6 Booting the DVD It fails to find my Geforce 7200 card and reports only 1024x768 when it works fine using NVs factory file.run at 1600x1200 in X. Not a problem but a headache reading the menus that follow in a ncurses console. Your Welcome Message is still in German yet both selections above show english. The translate buttom does not offer "en" so your Lic. is accepted blindly. Based on the screen size custom fdisk - Expert Partition - lacks the wording on "Label". and the GUI can not be moved using the mouse. So none of the words can be seen under Label. Good news is that the menus let you get your previous /etc/fstab. Selection went correctly and all choices came of the DVD. Reboot! Something failed here. I believe it to be due to a lack of "modprobe ext4". My "/" partition is ext4. It failed to boot. So,I tried the DVD "Repair Installed System" > Automatic which worked without any intervention from me. It complained of missing modules. One of them was ext4. Then it came to "Triggername Package Database" and stated not found. I let it rebuild . Then it failed "Searching for Triggername" which was rebuilt Lastly, mkinitrd was wrong and failed to build correctly because it was missing /etc/scsi_io.config. However, it did write initrd MBR correctly. Hi, I have builds for Milestone7, but I'm facing a heavy dillema: Somehow the base system became unstable without any chances to it that I'm aware of, see e.g. bugzilla.novell.com/537366 And there isn't really much time left to debug this for real as we need to have it on the mirrors before the power loss. But releasing it in this state won't get us many friends. I'm pretty sure it's one or two root causes, the problem is to find them ;( http://download.opensuse.org/factory/iso/ has new ISOs and the factory repo has M7, perhaps more people looking into the problem help. Hey Group; Milestone 7 kradio4 is reporting /usr/lib/kradio4/plugins/libkradio4_plugin_lirc.so not found. Then it comes up and can not find my radio card. [opensuse-factory] Thunderbird: saving an inbox email to a folder

A few months ago the behavior of Thunderbird changed for me. The issue has to do with dragging an Inbox mail message to a yellow folder previously created. For example folders titled: Family Friends Business The folder that gets highlighted is about 5 rows above the hand cursor. If I just look for the highlighted folder and not pay attention to the pointer and then drop then the mail message into the highlighted folder then it does go in that folder. However, a few months back this issue did not exist and the mouse cursor represented by a hand did align with the highlighted folder. I have been getting lots of help and advise from Basil Chupin (thanks Basil) and he has been unable to duplicate this issue. We both were testing on SUSE 11.1. He saw no problem but I do. We are both using MozillaThunderbird-2.0.0.22-0.1.1. One interesting observation is that I am using the same version of Thunderbird on my laptop and do not have the problem. This leads me to believe that the problem may be in a shared library that Thunderbird uses. Oh, this is on a 32-bit SUSE. I have not had time to make a comparison between the dependencies on these shared library. However, we both see the problem on SUSE 11.2 Milestone 6. For me it was easy to reproduce. I just created three new folders and then I tried to drag a new incoming email into it. I am not overly concerned about the issue on 11.1 since I will switch to 11.2 when it is released but I am concerned that both Basil and I see the issue with 11.2 Milestone 6 and I am hopeful that someone here will see if they can duplicate the issue and advise if I should file a bug report or ... ??? Hi all! Jaromir Cervenka started a little project where everyone can try the latest openSUSE release (atm M7) via VNC or SSH. See[1] (in Czech, but "vncviewer leon.i-tux.cz:1" and "ssh virtual(a)leon.i-tux.cz -p1111" should be understandable for everyone :-)). It would be nice if Novell started to provide something similar, because Jaromir's effort received a huge positive feedback in Czech and Slovak Linux Community. hi, 1. orca starts but the settings window can't be opened (needs a newer orca). 2. Some orca settings can't be saved like orca.settings.brailleSelectorIndicator = orca.settings.BRAILLE_SEL_BOTH orca.settings.brailleLinkIndicator = orca.settings.BRAILLE_LINK_BOTH They were always NONE. 3. firefox problem still exists refer to http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=508611 The liblouis problem was fixed thanks. Hi, its time to start thinking about how we want to manage updates to openSUSE 11.2 when it is released. I think it is a good idea to incrementally open up the process of releasing updates to the community so that everybody can submit updates. While talking to various people we came up with the following proposal: - the openSUSE community proposes an update policy - the openSUSE community comes up with a devel project layout for all packages in 11.2 (probably similar to the layout in factory) - maintenance updates are triggered by asking for a SWAMPID in bugzilla like usual - there will be an externally accessible "simple" interface to SWAMP where anyone can submit a patchinfo (this has to be developed). Due to time constraints we can not open up the internal workflow tracking to the outside as no proper ACL support can be implemented in time for 11.2. - package updates can be submitted against openSUSE:11.2:Update - A group of openSUSE people (both community and Novell internal, I suggest 5 people) reviews update submissions if they're in line with the opensuse update policy and coordinates their releases. Unclear how to bootstrap this group. This group is also responsible for handling security updates with coordinated release with care. - To ensure timely release of security updates, each devel group for 11.2 must contain at least one Novell employee. We can think about relaxing this for future openSUSE releases. Comments,opinions, feedback? [opensuse-factory] kdesu not working in kdebase4-runtime-4.3.1-154.1

kdebase4-runtime-4.3.1-154.1 issued yesterday breaks kdesu function. Has anyone else noticed this? [opensuse-factory] Zypper and yast don't display x86_64 summaries and descriptions.

Hi, has anybody noticed that zypper and yast software management fail to display descriptions for x86_64 packages in factory or 11.2 repos, zypper displays the description if the package is installed and up to date and yast will display the description if you select i586 version. Noarch, buildservice and any other repositories work. I filed a bug bnc#534677 August 27 and I first noticed the problem around July 19 the bug has been marked as a duplicate of http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=537243 . Does anyone know when - and if - packman will provide the necessary packages for 11.2 to be able to use kaffeine and xine? I cannot live without xine nor kaffeine (for my TV [dvb]) and I cannot fully test 11.2 without having both of these functioning. The files necessary to make these apps. function are normally available from packman and I am truly surprised that with oS 11.2 now at the MS6 stage packman has yet to create the necessary repos to handle oS 11.2. (Strangely enough, when I installed Kubuntu 9.10 the other day and tried to run kaffeine, Kubuntu came back with a message stating that I needed certain files before kaffeine would work, asked me if I wanted those files installed and after I responded with an Yes the files where automagically installed from the 'net.
