[opensuse-factory] First install went well, but raid1 bootloader problem?

My first installation went without a hickup and everything looks good, after a quick glance anyway. Thanks!! I left the grub settings at the suggestion made by yast. root fs is /dev/md2 (it's a spare partition). Boot loader was installed to md2. System bootet fine - with the grub menu from the 10.2 installation on that system (which I had forced into mbr). Does this mean there would have been nothing much but a black screen on first boot had the previous boot loader not been there? How many people boot from a Linux software raid1? The booting works fine, but few releases of 8.x, 9.x and 10.[012] do install it functionally in my experience. First day running Suse 10.3. Fantastic. The only problem is that Arno's iptables firewall ver 1.8.8.8h writes the following warning to /var/log/boot.msg when starting at boot. I do not run SuSEfirewall2: ... WARNING: /proc/../ip_conntrack_max was NOT found. This may be a problem! Setting default conntrack timeouts /etc/init.d/arno-iptables-firewall: line 605: /proc/sys/net/ipv4/netfilter/ip_conntrack_udp_timeout: No such file or directory /etc/init.d/arno-iptables-firewall: line 606: /proc/sys/net/ipv4/netfilter/ip_conntrack_udp_timeout_stream: No such file or directory ... In Suse 10.2 this message does not appear. Hello, net-download 2.2GB and set up all seems well, gnome flavor selected. Command line login ok but sax2 fails with error X-server is not running and core device and module already loaded. There was a msg about mouse selection error. Yast2 is working, whats next assuming this is a trivial fault. [opensuse-factory] Problems with OpenSuSE 10.3 + KDE 3.5.7 + Driver ATI x1400 v8.40 + Compiz

Hello, I have update my system with OpenSuSE 10.3 but I don't understand how to enable Compiz on my KDE 3.5.7. ATI drivers doesn't have support for 10.3 and so, no 3D (glxgears goes so sloooooooow) and when i do glxinfo, it says "no direct rendering". I have also installed compiz fuzion by "1-click install" (http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/XGL/openSUSE_10.3/compiz-fus…). Now, how can i see compiz? do i need to wait ati driver for 10.3 or it's possible to use it even now? Now for the really geeky, I tried to combine a CD-less boot of the installation system http://en.opensuse.org/Installation_without_CD with SLP to locate the installation server http://en.opensuse.org/Network_Installation_Source The initial boot uses files initrd and linux from the mini ISO, booted via grub. The server makes the DVD ISO available via ftp. SLP is configured. But one seems to have to go through the ncurses yast manual installation procedure, which does not offer an SLP option. Is it possible to make this work somehow? SLP is a must for LAN-installs requiring the minimum of user-action. In case of an updating installation: Would it make sense/be possible to add Packman, Videolan etc. to update sw installed from them? [opensuse-factory] 10.3 install problem

Hardware: Compaq Presario 1720US laptop P3 1G cpu 256M ram During first attempt to install (fresh) while selecting custom software choices the system became very sluggish and eventually crashed the installer. In trying to recreate the problem the system became sluggish again but did not crash and once swap was added the system became responsive again. This could become a big issue for low ram systems where a custom software selection is made. I believe this can be verified by someone else that has a low ram system and by using the "expert" area of the software selection. If you poke around in the various patterns and also use search to select and deselect packages I think this problem can be easily reproduced. Perhaps asking to mount the swap partition before going to the summary screen would be appropriate. After my laptop install is finished I will repeat the process and try to reproduce the crash. If successful I will open a bug report. What's hppening? It's the 4th, but only for another hour and a half ;) There appear to be no torrent files for the sources DVDs for GM. The last ones are for RC1, which probably aren't online any more. Is that lack of torrent files an oversight, intentional, or a still-planned? Running the latest openSUSE RC with updates and pidgin produces no sound for me. The environment is KDE and both ALSA and ESD are running. Sounds are enabled in pidgin preferences. Looking for some culprits here...pidgin issue, sound system, etc.? Hi, Please, always you report or you are asked to report a bug for any YaST module (installation, soundcard, add-on-creator, ... package manager), attach YaST logs without waiting for >NEEDINFO< from the assignee. [opensuse-factory] configuring tv card with yast doesn't load the modules after restart

I configured my tv card using yast (qt version), I had to edit the card params manually. All works fine. But after restart, the modules are not loaded, so I have to set it up again. I'm using RC2 with gnome, any suggestion ? Btw, this works fine under 10.2. The attachment icons are missing for Evolution (openSUSE 10.3 RC1), at least for IMAP accounts. I've not tested this with POP or other accounts. Hello, dual head mode on chipset Intel G33 (graphic GMA 3100) is not working correctly. Both monitors are always using the same resolution, xinerama is not possible. Tested on Shuttle XPC G5 3300H, 19"-monitor, flat tv. Used openSUSE 10.3 RC1 64bit,configuration made with Sax2. Hi! * openSUSE 10.3 is sent to the fab, being available shortly (including as part of issue 22/2007 of the german c't magazine) * we have 73 critical for 10.3, which is roughly 40% more from what we have against 10.2 at the moment (and still 9 for 10.1) * as soon as the 10.3 final is available, I hope we see a lot of old bugs regression tested - and surely we'll see some new bugs coming in * we are currently preparing a i386 promo DVD, which features the two live images and an installation part. We had something very similiar for 10.2 too * we are preparing first online updates for 10.3 * planning for 11.0 will start as soon as we all got our 10.3 beer in the hands. We're still investigating how to open that planning phase in a coordinated manner - see also the logs of the last IRC meeting if you haven't been there. Its been in BETA for a while and I can't see any breaks even though ABI built (although BETA seems to have a lot of non-building packages currently). Hello, currently, YaST-partitioner will suggest to delete existing LVMs and re-partition the free space for a new installation. This is clearly a very bad idea for anyone who runs openSUSE in an LVM-environment. It should be no problem at all to change this non-sensical default as the YaST is perfectly capable of making a 100%-accurate LVM-based partitioning proposal that not only keeps the existing LVM intact but also suggests to re-format (LVM-)root only and create a mount-point for the existing (LVM-)/home. Unfortunately the bug has been declared 'INVALID' quickly and without discussion. I stil think that this behavior of the partitioner is highly undesirable and could easily be changed. It would be nice to be able to be able to have an option so these would show up with an option to not remove. The first time you see these will be removed is when the dependencies are resolved and zypper starts updating. These can be reinstalled without problems. There also is no consistency, e.g on one box upgrading to 10.3-RC1 removed skype, on the other it was kept. Worth a bug report? I'm assuming the trusted list is the cause.
