[opensuse-factory] D-Link DWL 520+ support

In 10.0 there's an update available on the update servers, a script that installs the acx100 firmware for Texas Instruments chipset used in DWL520+. This works fine, the card works without any problems. If I update to 10.2 the card does not work anymore. This script is no more available. If I make a fresh install of 10.2 the card is not even found. Is there a workaround I could try to a) keep my existing card in update (otherwise the update works fine) b) get the firmware to work when I copy it to the same place in a fresh install? Does the firmware (or kernel or something) need some "installing" or is it just to copy the firmware? [opensuse-factory] compiz + xcb problem

Hello I wanted to try the latest xgl/compiz stuff so I added a two repos from repos.opensuse.org; X11:/XGL and xorg72. That got me Xorg 7.2 RC3, mesa 6.5.2, compiz 0.3.4 and some other stuff. The new xorg is built with xcb instead of standard xlib which causes a problem with compiz. Now it refuses to start with this error: simon@Isidor:~> DISPLAY=":1" compiz compiz: xcb_xlib.c:50: xcb_xlib_unlock: Assertion `c->xlib.lock' failed. Avbruten (SIGABRT) Is this a known problem? Any ideas? What to do with the bad package mngr reviews [1,2]. Should there be bug reports for it, or is it already handled by the opensuse devs? I also have an ASUS P5B Deluxe and reported the same problem work-around here on 23 November (at the time I was unaware of the prior history of this bug). If the JMicron is set to "IDE" in the P5B BIOS, the pata_jmicron driver is not loaded and the install halts with "Make sure that CD1 is in your drive." Backing up in the text install and manually loading pata_jmicron allows the install to proceed. However, if the JMicron is set to "AHCI" in the P5B BIOS, the same procedure (manually loading pata_jmicron) results in the install message: "Insert nil CD1" during the "initializing catalogs" stage. I have not found a work-around to get past this point. After aborting, looking at the installed drivers shows pata_jmicron is still installed. Why does the install program suddenly fail to see that CD1 is in the drive? Installing from the same CDs using a SCSI optical disk succeeds, and the PATA optical drive is accessible with the P5B BIOS set to "AHCI" for the JMicron. I sent email to the assignee (Steffen Winterfeldt) for the "new" bug, but have not received a response. Hello, Is there any reason to not release colorgcc rpm for opensuse10.2. At least I've searched it without success. As a proof, I've rebuild the opensuse 10.1 src.rpm one to 10.2 and worked OK. I like to see colored warning and error gcc messages, so I would suggest to include again it into factory. But may be I'm missing something. Honestly, I prefer adding many small, specific repos than adding a huge external one, which risks to try to replace base libs even when it's not 'required'. As long as there is space on the DVD (5CDs) I would say we can add it, otherwise better have it in an external repo. I don't think the iFolder Server is interesting for every user at home, it is a more specific tool (also not comparable to an apache, which is very often installed for development). [opensuse-factory] 10.2RC1 install failure (& fix) on ASUS P5B Deluxe

Boards that use the Intel P965 chipset have another chip for PATA support since no IDE support is included on the P965 chipset. On the P5BD (and some other boards), this chip is a Jmicron chip. If the Jmicron (there's a separate setting for the ICH8) is set to "AHCI" in the BIOS, CD1 will be recognized (if it is in a typical IDE CDROM drive on the PATA port), and the installation will start. However, it will soon be unable to find the CD it was reading from a moment before, and ask you to insert CD1 repeatedly. The fix is to back up to the menu choice that allows loading IDE drivers and load the pata_jmicron driver. Once that's done the installation will proceed normally. [opensuse-factory] Cannot mount volumes on desktop (HAL permission problem)

Hi, I have several volumes displayed on my desktop. But when I'm trying to access one, I'm getting a dialog box saying: Cannot mount volume. Error org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.PermissionDeniedByPolicy. Details say: hal-storage-fixed-mount refused uid 1000 This is on an Itanium workstation (IA-64 architecture) running up-to-date openSUSE Factory. Is this a (known) bug or are they corrective actions I can try? I don't know if it's related but I can see an error message at boot time about udevd not being able to lookup the disk group. On a new 10.2GM system which was installed from DVD I ticked oss and non-oss as further installation sources sometime during the installation process (oss was already ticked). With a few exceptions, default KDE install. Now yast->software management shows a large number of installed packages which are newer than the version on DVD. The first only: rpm -q 3ddiag 3ddiag-0.738-29 DVD: find dvd-suse10.2_i386/ | grep 3ddiag dvd-suse10.2_i386/suse/i586/3ddiag-0.738-26.i586.rpm Recursive directory listing from gwdg.de: -rw-r--r-- 30817 2006/11/28 13:58:34 repo/oss/suse/i586/3ddiag-0.738-29.i586.rpm The repo version is newer for probably hundreds of packages. That's going to create some chaos. What's the point of installing from DVD when the installation then goes and downloads perhaps a 5th of the packages from the repo server? (The list of packages can be saved from yast, but it includes only the available version, not the installed version, so I can't grep to count). Would it be a good recommendation to make sure to untick the oss installation source when installing from any local source, like DVD/CD/ftp copy/etc? I cannot switch virtual terminal screens, e.g. Pressing CAPS LOCK key does not toggle the state of the keyboards caps-lock indicator. No keystrokes are echoed, either plain or control, including CTRL-C and CTRL-D. CTRL-ALT-DEL has no effect. I has been in this state for many hours now. This is an ASUS P5B and it has no on-board or on-chip graphics. Specifically, the board has an Intel P965, not a G965 chipset. I have an nVidia card installed. This did not happen with any of the pre-release versions of 10.2 from alpha5 through RC1. What went wrong and how to I solve it? [opensuse-factory] Exporting XHTML from OpenOffice went south with 10.2

I have a spreadsheet that I keep updating and exporting to xhtml format. This has been all well with 10.0 and 10.1. Now with 10.2 OO exports, overwrites the file when told to, but the contents is just crap. Fortunately the ods-file is OK still after saving in 10.2, so it can be opened in 10.0 and exported. Then it's OK again. Since I've never used any other Linux versions of OpenOffice than Suse, I don't really know whether this is Novell OO related or OO related in general. What should I do with it? [opensuse-factory] rt73usb module to be blacklisted

After very successful 10.2 GM installations (I consider it the best available distribution around right now) I had to learn that the included rt73usb module should better be blacklisted: 1. Firmware is not included anyway and there is no warning it's not there when loading the module. 2. This module is highly instable and brings the adapter to virtual standstills on various machines (and various distros), only way out then: replug the adapter. Only good news: it doesn't bring down the whole system. 3. During uptimes the performance bounces between 1/3 and 1/10 of the net speed one gets when either booting the same machine into Windows or into any ndiswrapper configuration. I understand that for situations where one needs to shuffle a few MBs occasionally via WLAN, rt73usb might be sufficient. But in non-toy situations? [opensuse-factory] USB drive connection went south with 10.2

I have a 250 GB USB drive that works just fine in 10.0. I have two machines where the following can be reproduced: When booted to 10.2 the power indicator led on the disk enclosure is lit, the USB drive starts to spin, the disk activity led blinks. Then the power indicator led on the disk enclosure blinks once (off and on again) real briefly and everything starts all over again and again. Off course the heads of the disk click while this is happening so you don't want that to repeat many times. This can be done in two machines, one being USB 2 the other is USB 1(.1?) only. When booted to 10.0 everything works in both machines. Normally I connect the drive, it appears as /dev/sda1 and mount it manually to a directory. What should I look for in these machines? [opensuse-factory] Mouse instability again!

Hi, Just installed openSUSE10.2 GM from the i386 DVD and the mouse became unstable during the Hardware configuration stage (Graphics Card & Monitor). I rebooted and continued the install without configuring the monitor (accepted the default resolution) and the install completed OK. This appears to be a regression problem as it was not present in RC1 but was in earlier alpha/betas. Note the problem is not in the installed system only in the installation program.
